It was a dark day in the Land of Rice. Per usual. It seemed as though the once peaceful land had turned into nothing but darkness after the Hidden Sound village was established. The multiple bases that were ubiquitous in the small territory seemed to be constantly churning out all sorts of harmful chemicals like smoke into the air. It was not unusual for one to encounter a completely smoky day, if they strayed too far into the surrounding area of one of the more industrial bases. However, the reason for the darkness was not at all the effect of industrial carelessness or some sort of natural phenomena caused by the sound ninja. It was actually evening in the small land, and the sun was just beginning to disappear behind the few forests that stood shakily at the Western territory of the Land of Rice. In this natural darkness, a female who went by the name of Tayuya stood tall in the grass, her flute just touching her lips as she played melody after melody. The songs echoed through the forest surrounding her, and strangely, had no effect on the wildlife. Tayuya was not using her flute to cause pain this time. Surprisingly, she was actually playing a song. The first song she had learned, the song her father had taught her when she was only a toddler.
Tayuya was in a particularly good mood today. She had not been requested to do anything by the higher authorities of the Hidden Sound today, and she found it very pleasing to have a chance to relax for once. Not to mention she didn't have to be around her Sound Four teammates who irked her so much sometimes. It was a calming feeling to be able to stand in a small clearing in the forest without any interruption and just play her flute without causing any harm to anyone. Not that she didn't like doing that, but she found herself becoming less tense when she would just play a melody without any particular effect coming of it other than pure music. Admittedly, Tayuya was quite vulnerable at the moment. She was so swallowed up in her flute playing that she barely even noticed her surroundings, but she had double checked before playing that no one was in her immediate vicinity. Then again, some people might be drawn to her flute playing, but the smarter ones would stay away from it. The smarter ones being the people who knew Tayuya and what effects her flute could have on people. That wasn't a high percentage of the resident ninja, but the ones who were higher in ranking knew her pretty well.
For a moment, Tayuya lowered her flute and wiped her brow. "It's getting dark out. I should probably head back to the quarters before I'm locked out." The young woman said to herself, tapping her chin with her left index finger. "But then again... eh, I have time for one more song." And with that statement, her flute was lifted to her lips again. But this time, she began to play one of her demonic melodies. There would be no effect of the song itself, other than a slight eerie feeling in all who heard it. She still didn't feel like practicing her Genjutsu at the moment. She would find time for that when someone like her teammate Jirobo was free. He had a pretty strong will. She'd like to see how he would react when all of his skin was melting off of his bones. That was her favored illusionary jutsu. Any illusion that caused immediate fear in a target was preferred for Tayuya- but once again, as of right now, the demonic melody she was playing would have no significant effect on anybody else. She was just playing it for the sake of her own enjoyment and relaxation. She couldn't help it. She took a certain pride in being able to play the flute so wonderfully.

>>>Dosu Kinuta<<< ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Night time in the Land of Rice was Dosu’s preferred time of the day. It was much quieter, and every sound was amplified by the quiet. It was perfect a person like him, someone who fought by amplifying sound itself. Besides, the sounds of the night were more interesting than the day sounds. During the day he was stuck in the bases of Hidden Sound. It was too dark and quiet down there for his taste. The only sounds were basically dripping of water, crackling of fire, and the occasional scream if he was in one of the research bases. He learned a long time ago, however, to not ask what those were. But he knew full well that Orochimaru liked to…experiment. Heck, he was one of these experiments; obviously people didn’t have sound amplifiers stuck on their arm.
But the night, well, that was a whole new world. There were of course the standard night time sounds; the chirping of the crickets, the howling of wolves, the hoo-hooing of owls. But it was more than just that. There was the breathing of sleeping animals, the scampering of night time animals like raccoons, and of course the amplified daytime sounds like the wind blowing in the trees. Most people feared the dark and its strange noises; Dosu embraced them. He had to live with them for several years after all, and knowing what was the sound of a stray deer and what was a wolf was a matter of life and death.
Now that he was a shinobi of Hidden Sound, however, Dosu didn’t have to fear such animals. He could fight back now; he wasn’t a weak, spineless, half-burnt kid anymore. Now he was a shinobi, his wounds were healing, and he could use sound as a weapon. The pure amount of damage that a simple flick of his finger on the amplifier was rather surprising. Any animal that attacked him would find themselves out like a light, or at least writhing in pain. Ironically, animals were a lot like him; many of them had a sensitivity to sound to alert themselves to predators. It was this same sensitivity that made them easy prey to his amplifier.
”Hmph, I guess I’m lucky enough to be able to block out my own sounds. Sorry animals, but I guess I’m the top of the food chain.”
Right now he was sitting in a tree, enjoying the sounds and gloating over his superiority over animals. As he sat there, however, he picked up a sound that definitely wasn’t a natural one. It was to organized and harmonic, and sounded as if produced by a musical instrument of sort. Closing his eyes, Dosu focused his sense of hearing on the sound to get a better idea of what it was. Yes, it was a musical instrument, most likely a flute or some kind of wind-based instrument. Subjectively, it sounded rather ‘demonic’ so to speak. Kind of eerie, the sort of thing you would see in a horror-based play for atmospheric purposes. At night, it was perfect for creeping someone out.
Opening his eyes, and with the knowledge of the location of the sound, Dosu stood up and jumped to the ground. He doubted it was an intruder, and he already had an inkling of who it was; Tayuya. She was one of the Sound Four, the elite group of ninja that served directly under Orochimaru. They were basically the Sound version of Jounin due to the small size of the village. And out of all of them, she was the one Dosu sort of liked. She actually used sound as a weapon; the rest, well, they would fit in fine in any of the other villages. Kidomaru was a freaky spider person, Jirobo was all muscle and strength, and Sakon/Ukon, well, he didn’t have much to say except they were weird. Only Kimmimaro, the ‘leader’ of the Sound Four, had any respect from Dosu. He was just that good.
Outside of combat, Dosu didn’t know much about Tayuya, except she supposedly had a bit of a mouth and was quite rude. Considering Zaku and Kin were similar to that, Dosu was used to that sort of thing. So he was going to risk visiting her. Besides, he wanted to know more about how she used sound to produce illusions. He could only use his amplifier to distort a person physically and throw them off balance. Adding to his arsenal would be very helpful for when the Chuunin Exams arrived.
Walking into the region she was playing, Dosu stayed quiet until she stopped playing. After all, he was polite enough to wait until a person playing music was done. He had an appreciation for good sound.
”Well, I didn’t expect to see you out here playing. If you don’t mind me asking, do you have a particular name for that piece, or were you just making it up as you went?” ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- >>>Beating You Up At the Speed of Sound<<<

As Tayuya played, her thoughts began to stray towards unimportant matters. The most prominent one being the new vessel. Kimimaro. To say the least, she really despised the guy. It hadn't been too long ago when the teenage boy, who was only slightly older than herself, was matched up against the entire Sound Four. Despite their efforts, Tayuya and the rest of the squad did not even get one single hit on him. Frankly it was... well, embarrassing. But none of that mattered now. From what she had last heard, Kimimaro was struck with an illness. Tayuya almost scoffed. Such a powerful ninja being taken down by a disease? Pathetic. It would seem that he was just a sad little boy behind the countless amounts of different vertebrae. But though she hated him, she had to secretly thank him for teaching the more cockier members of her squad- A.K.A. all of them- that teamwork would have to be key in their upcoming battles. Out of all of them, Sakon was the worst. He always jumped out and did things by himself. Which is what got him hit in that battle in the first place.
As the thoughts went on, so did the song. She had been playing for three minutes straight now, without missing a beat. But then again, what was there to miss? In all honesty, Tayuya wasn't keeping any particular set of keys at the moment, only playing whatever her heart desired. Because of her talent, it would still come off as a work of beautiful sound, but there was no rhyme or rhythm to it.
And yet, every song had an ending. And as the last rays of light started to disappear over the horizon, Tayuya decided hers would have to end. With little trouble at all, she ended the song on a very eerie set of keys. Why? For her own pleasure. After all, the most fun songs to play were the ones that would creep people out. That was Tayuya's style, though a freak like Kidomaru often stole the thunder on that one. As she finished off the very last note, Tayuya lowered the flute from her lips and let out a small sigh of contentment.
But that slight content feeling wouldn't last long. A voice coming from her left surprised her. A little too much. Tayuya's eyes widened a little, her mouth open with teeth gritted as the slightest gasp was emitted. Who was this, and how had they snuck up on her so easily? It must have been while she was playing her flute. She could almost curse herself for being so relaxed- this was the Village hidden in the Sound, not some backwater playground village like Konoha! There were dangers here lurking about that even Tayuya was admittedly afraid of- and that was really saying something. With a quick counter, Tayuya whirled around to face the direction that the voice came from, and to her surprise she saw someone that, well, didn't qualify to be able to sneak up on her like that. A small grin spread across her face in a mock attempt to hide the flash moment of fear that had made its home on her expression only moments ago.
"Dosu Kinuta. Genin of the Sound, partnered with Tsuchi Kin and Abumi Zaku. Your physical alteration is an amplifier built into your..." She paused, looking up as if to think before continuing right on, "right forearm. Your sensei is Lord Orochimaru, and the reason for that getup is unknown even to yourself. Heh. Nice to see ya." the cocky redhead finished, a smirk gracing her pale lips. Tayuya was definitely not a pushover as far as intelligence went. In fact, frankly, she was the dead opposite. Out of the members in Sound Four, she was definitely the one who had the most logical and tactical senses, and memorizing members of the Sound community only came as second nature to her. She had made it important to memorize everyone in the most meticulous way possible, studying them right down to their origins and the physical alterations, if any, that Orochimaru gave them. Oh yeah, Tayuya wasn't lacking in the smarts.
As for what to say next, she just remembered he had asked her a question. "It doesn't have a name, I was playing it off of the top of my head. Not something I usually do, but I guess I was feeling a bit relaxed tonight." she said, a sadistic undertone lying in her voice. It was just natural for her to have that kind of cynical, mocking effect whenever she talked to somebody. Right now, she was even surprised at herself for not even swearing at him for surprising her like that- but she didn't want to reveal that he had. No need to hurt her pride.

>>>Dosu Kinuta<<< ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Even with his bandages, Tayuya probably would have spotted Dosu grinning behind them. He had apparently surprised the girl by sneaking up on her. Him, sneaking up on a Sound Four member. It was probably a good thing he hadn’t been killed yet. That was what he was sort of expecting to happen, though obviously he was glad that hadn’t happen. She tried to hide the surprise with a grin, but he had seen it. Oh well, it wasn’t important. He would let her keep her pride, and in return she would let him keep his head. He had a feeling if he had pointed it out, she’d have lopped it off. Still, he had to poke at her a little bit.
”I hope I didn’t scare you? I know I can be a pretty scary guy to meet in the woods at night. It’s the bandages, isn’t it?” he said gruffly, even if he was joking. It was more fun to make people confused as to whether he was joking or not than just joking outright.
Dosu raised an eyebrow when Tayuya began to run off everything she knew about him; name, partners, jutsu. Orochimaru as a sensei was no surprise, though the fact she knew that he didn’t know why he wore his outfit was kind of funny. The smirk that appeared on her face this time was real, and a well deserved one. She was the intelligent member of the Sound Four from what he had heard. It was no surprise then she knew something about him. Of course, he was the most intelligent member of his group, so now it was time to get back at her a little bit with his own knowledge.
”Very good. All of that is correct. Now then, let me see what I can remember about you. Tayuya, a member of the elite Sound Ninja squad, the Sound Four. Fellow members include Kidomaru, Jirobi, Sakon and Ukon, and are lead by Kimmimaro. Your specialty is…genjutsu based off of your flute there, correct? I love trivia games, don’t you?
With that done, Dosu sat down on the ground and leaned up against a tree. So far he hadn’t seen the rage and vulgarness he had heard about Tayuya. It was sort of disappointing really. That was an odd thing to say, but he hated it when people did not live up to their reputations. Of course, maybe the moonlight and music had pacified a normally aggressive girl. It never made sense to Dosu why such things did though. Sure, he liked the night, but he didn’t think there was anything naturally soothing about it. In fact, if anything, one had to be more alert during the night. With sight at a minimum, one had to rely on the sense of sound, which required the utmost concentration to perfect it. Night was the time to be paranoid, to be tense, unless you were sleeping soundly in bed. Even then one had to be careful of nightmares and thieves of the night. How night was soothing Dosu didn’t know.
However, his attention was brought back to Tayuya as she said her song was just something off the top of her head. He noted there was some slight sadism in her tone. But that was supposed to be natural for her so he blew it off. Instead, he just answered her statement with his own.
”Then you must be rather skilled in your flute to make such a tune on the spot. It gave me the chills, and I’m used to the harshness of the forest at night.”
This sucking up would probably help him out. That statement should fix any pride that he might have hurt by sneaking up on her. In return, Dosu was hoping that Tayuya would agree to what he was thinking. If there was a way to take her music-genjutsu skills and adapt them to his amplifier, his combat abilities would double in response. All he needed was her help in figuring out how to transfer sound into a genjutsu. He could theoretically figure it out himself, but why do that when there was an expert in it front of him.
”Speaking of which, and I hope you don’t mind my asking, but would you be willing to help me with something?” ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- >>>Beating You Up At the Speed of Sound<<<

Though Tayuya thought she had hidden her brief surprise pretty well, she sensed that he probably knew anyways. Now that was going to be annoying. And the fact that he 'asked' her if he had scared her right after got the redhead a little angry. In fact, she even gritted her teeth and just about opened her mouth to unleash a chain of insults, but somehow miraculously held herself back. Self control seemed to be a little more... well, present in the young woman when it was dark out. That was a little strange considering that the Land of Rice was full of dangers in the first place, and the dark only acted as a supplementary catalyst for operations undertaken by thieves and criminals. In fact, most people in the land should be terrified when the sun retreated behind the natural curve of the world, but not Tayuya. She found the darkness comforting and relaxing- barely anyone else would be out at the time, and she could play her flute in piece. At least for the most part. But there were always those people who never failed to show up unwanted at the worst times. Such as Dosu.
After Tayuya had fired off the numerous facts about Dosu, her perpetual smirk faded lightly as he fired off facts about her right back. Surprisingly, she kept her mouth shut, though when he made his snarky comment near the end she highly considered chopping his head off. But nonetheless, yet again, she let her anger boil. If the kid was smart, he would stop talking so sardonically to her. She was better than him after all. In both intelligence and power. And she was gonna tell him that once he stopped talking. Which didn't appear to be soon.
He then mentioned her flute. Tayuya's curiosity sparked a bit as she looked up, actually mildly acknowledging him now. She was always open to comments about her flute- good comments at least. Negative ones ended in the critic's death or serious injury, and for good reason. One should never make fun of Tayuya. First off, she doesn't appreciate it, and secondly, she tends to be extremely violent. Especially when it came to her flute playing. But surprisingly to her, she only commented on how it scared him. That was a pretty good comment, considering that was the intention of the tune. What he said caused Tayuya to brighten up a little, but the irritation from comments said before were still boiling in her chest. And when Dosu asked for help, she finally decided to unleash it all. She scoffed as he ended his remark, and laughed mockingly.
"You? Why would I help you, you're just a sniveling little Genin. Though I have to say, your intelligence is pretty high considering you know that much about me. So you've got the bark, but I doubt someone like you could ever bite."
A little harsh, but Tayuya felt a bit better after saying it. She always felt better when criticizing other people. Her true curiosity, however, was centered around how the male would react. Surely he wasn't as diplomatic as he sounded. Most of the ninja she knew were ill-tempered, though none of them even nearly compared to her. And what she just said wasn't really even anger- in fact, she hadn't even sworn at him. That was certainly a first. Maybe she would have to back up her own bark with some more bite. Soon, but right now she was going to bark a little louder.
"And no, you didn't scare me. I was just reacting, is all. And I'd like to say that I am quite skilled on the flute, obviously, considering my rank. What's a Genin like you have against me? Sure, you've got a sound amplifier, but are your basic ninja skills even worth mentioning? If you're looking for me to instruct you, you're gonna have to show me that you can fight without that thing. So come on little brat, show me what you've got."
A second chain of insults, but this one had a deeper meaning. She concluded with his last statement that he wanted her advice on something, most likely ninja skills. And he seemed to admire her flute- most did, but she was quite capable of holding her own in battle without it. If he could do the same, then maybe she would consider teaching him. But as of right now, she was going to keep mocking him until he had the guts to step it up a notch and try to take her on without his sound amplification skills.

>>>Dosu Kinuta<<< ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Apparently he had upset Tayuya with his comments. Dosu sighed to himself about that. He had thought he was going a bit too far with that comment, but he couldn’t help it. He was similar to Tayuya in that he liked to be snarky and make up taunts to use against an opponent. This just turned out to be the wrong time to pursue that hobby. Though apparently she was holding back some. She started to say something, and then stopped herself. She was showing a lot of self control, something he had never heard related to her. Maybe all the rumors about her were just overrated or something? Either way, it was nice to have to deal with someone with some restraint. Zaku had a bit of a mouth and was rather outspoken at times. A decent team mate, but a bit of a pain at times.
After rambling his own facts about her, Dosu found that he had just made her mood worse. Her smirk faded, but at least she wasn’t going at him to cut his head off. Still, he was starting to push it, he could tell. Still, Dosu, while intelligent, had some pride in his skills, so he just wanted to show them off. In a real fight she could beat him with little problem, but he still wanted to show he was a decent shinobi. A good shinobi always made sure to have as much intelligence on the enemy as possible, and it was also important to be able to get that information as needed. Sadly, she probably knew more on him; he only knew about her due to the position of being in the Sound Four. Outside of that, he didn’t know anything. She probably knew about his life before the Hidden Sound and everything. Not like he had anything to hide; farm boy who had his village destroyed, wandered a bit, then became a Hidden Sound nin. Nothing that secretive or amazing.
His comment on her flute playing skills seemed to improve her mood however. That saved him from being killed probably. But sucking up to her caused her to instead only mock him and laugh, then talking to him with a scoff. Now he could see where she had gotten her reputation from. Still, he didn’t let the insult bother him. First off, he was expecting them. Second, he deserved them for back talking and being a snark towards a Sound Four member. Three, it could have been worse since she could have attacked him, or if it had been someone like Sakon he would have been attacked. So he wasn’t upset or that angered by the comments. Hard to be angry with something you expect and deserve with a little mercy shown in. Besides, if he snapped back at her she probably would bite back.
”I think I have a little more bite than what you give me credit for…for a Genin of course. Obviously you could beat me, which is why I wanted to ask you about something.” replied Dosu, trying to be a little more diplomatic since he didn’t want to get on her completely bad side.
Of course, give me a few years and I will surpass you with no trouble. Your flute is a great weapon, but once I figure out how it works I’m sure I can neutralize the jutsu it is responsible for. he thought to himself. She soon started up again about his request, going on about how his basic ninja skills were probably trash, to summarize it. Glancing down at his sound amplifier, then back at her, he had to smile a little bit. Sure, the sound amplifier was his main jutsu, but he didn’t live with it forever. Just the last few years or so. Before that he lived on his own, and while he didn’t have shinobi training then, but it was still survival training. And his skill in sound was just honed, but not created, by the training. Without his sound amplifier he would still be rather decent.
”…Okay then, deal. I will battle you without using my amplifier, and in return I want instruction in your Genjutsu. I may not be able to recreate it perfectly with my amplifier, but I’m sure I can adapt it.” ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- >>>Beating You Up At the Speed of Sound<<<

Tayuya couldn't help but let a smirk spread onto her lips. He had a little more bite than she thought, huh? Yeah, right. It had sounded like she hurt his pride or something. 'What a pity' she thought to herself, though obviously enjoying the fact that something she said might have gotten to him. She couldn't help herself- she liked to get deep down in people's feelings and mess everything up. Maybe she could even bring something up about his past during the fight. In fact- if she remembered correctly, he had those bandages from a fire that he experienced at a very young age. Perhaps the mention, or even better, the recreation of such a fire would get to him. She would have to test it out.
As expected, the male accepted her challenge in a taijutsu battle. She had definitely expected something like that. He was a Genin after all. But what he wanted in return was a bit out of his reach. As Tayuya understood, you had to be born the Genjutsu type, you couldn't just learn it very easily. It was like having a chakra element. Unless you were very good, you would have to stick with the one you were born with. In addition to that, she appreciated the fact that she was one of the few members of the Sound Village to actually use Genjutsu successfully. She was very proud of it, actually, and she felt that it was what set her apart from the other Sound Four members, in addition to her unrivaled intelligence of course. But realistically, what were the chances of Dosu defeating her in a hand-to-hand combat battle? Sure, she was a little rusty on the matter, but he was only a Genin and she was in the Sound Four. Her skills would clearly be better. So why not humor the kid and actually give him the false hope of attempting to learn her Genjutsu skills? It would be a fun little recreational experiment. Not to mention she could brush up on her Taijutsu.
"Just to warn you, I doubt you can successfully learn any relatively good Genjutsu. But I'll accept your terms. However, if I win, you have to agree to go bother someone else. Preferably Jirobo."
She had said the very last part as an afterthought. The terms seemed fair enough to her. In fact, telling him that he would have to leave her alone would probably result in a bit more adrenaline in the Genin's attacks. That would be interesting. If he truly wanted to learn Genjutsu, then he would definitely make a large effort to defeat her because frankly, who else was he to learn it from? Orochimaru seemed to have too much time on his hands, and Tayuya was an expert.
"Now get ready. First one to pin the other successfully wins, alright? Ready, set, GO!"
She had shouted the last part very quickly, obviously to both instill surprise and to give her the advantage of the first attack. In rapid movements, she had already stored her flute away and dashed towards the other, dropping to the floor and swinging her foot at his ankles. It was a bit slow and clumsy, but certainly not something a Genin would find too easy to avoid. Might as well start off small, after all. And she was confident that any move Dosu threw at her would easily be able to be avoided with the chance to give multiple counter blows. After all, it's not as if she was facing Sakon or anything. In a taijutsu fight with him, admittedly, she would go down in a matter of seconds.
An idea came to mind immediately after swinging her leg. The idea of fire. How was she to make it? It would be easy, just by either somehow using chakra to ignite it, or by rubbing pieces of wood together swiftly. But more importantly, a second idea came to mind. Did she really want to beat this kid? Sure, it would hurt her pride a bit if a sniveling Genin beat her, but she actually was sorting to like the guy. Not in a romantic way- not at all. But in a more companion like way. After all, she pretty much disliked everyone on the Sound Four squad for various reasons, and secondly, this guy actually knew an inkling about sound! With him, she could train her Genjutsu techniques to be far superior to that of what they were at the moment. He seemed to have a pretty good intelligence ranking as well, so who knew where their conversations could go? It was a blissful thought, but when she became more aware of the situation, she dismissed the thought and instead let arrogance flood in. Why would she befriend a Genin? She was better than that. Or at least that's what she told herself.

>>>Dosu Kinuta<<< ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tayuya was smirking, and Dosu wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or not. She smirked when waning to yell at him, and smirked when he said something she liked. It was like the reverse of a poker face; so emotional you couldn’t tell the true emotion. Still, apparently she had decided to go ahead and agree to his wager on the fight. Of course, she insulted his intelligence and skill by saying he wouldn’t be able to learn and good Genjutsu. Hmph, she was a little cocky for someone who was the exact same age as he was. Just because she was Sound Four didn’t mean she was completely superior to him. Yes, he didn’t know much on Genjutsu, and to a degree one had to have a innate sense of skill to become a master. He didn’t want to be a master though; he wanted the basics so he could expand his repertoire of jutsu.
Still, he wasn’t going to badmouth the offer right now. The fact she was agreeing to it, even if she was acting as if it was a waste of time, was something. She could have easily blown him off, leaving him wasting his time. Instead, she agreed, which meant that most likely she thought there was some sort of worth to it all. What that worth was he didn’t know; sparring partner? Punching bag? Or as her part of the bet said, an excuse to get someone to dump on her fellow Sound Four. Apparently not all was “sound” in the Sound Four since she seem to dislike Jirobo. Still, Dosu wasn’t going to let her win so easily; he might not be on her absolute level, but both of them relied on sound. Bringing it to a pure taijutsu fight evened the field some, right?
As Tayuya began to yell out her instructions on the fight (a simple pinning of the other), Dosu picked up the sound of her feet shifting. Her yelling for the most part drowned it out, and he barely picked it up. He knew she was going to be moving; exactly where or how was harder to determine with her loud mouth running. All he could do was tense up his body and get into a defensive position. Within seconds he was having to deal with her jumping down and swinging her foot at his ankles. Since he was already expecting something to happened, his reflexes kicked in, and he found himself jumping backwards to dodge the attack. Once safe, Dosu decided to take advantage of her currently lowered position to take a swing at her.
Since his forearm with the sound amplifier was the heavier of the two arms, that was the one he swung at. He took an aim at her torso; he wasn’t trying to hurt her after all. Furthermore, if she tried to use her arms to stab at him with a kunai, the amplifier would work as a bracer of sort and protect him. Actually, if she tried to it hit herself, she would basically use his jutsu for her. She had said he couldn’t use his amplifier; if he set up a situation where she used it, well, he followed the rules of the battle. Of course, the arm was heavier and slower, and it also meant that his swing would be wider. This left his own torso more open, so he made sure to side step when he swung so as to minimize the area she could hit. He couldn’t completely cover himself, but he could minimize where she could attack.
Dosu had to admit that should anyone run in on the scene, it would be a funny sight. A Sound Genin taking on a member of the Sound Four, and the most intelligent one of them at that. Dosu had a feeling bystanders would put their money on Tayuya for winning this match. However, Dosu wasn’t going to let this battle end so easily. Sure, he was just a Genin, but he was the unofficial leader of the team, the most intelligent member as well. He wasn’t some runt of the littler type that barely got bye; he had the training and experience to eventually become a top shinobi. Beating Tayuya in this fight was just another step towards that power. If he won, he’d receive Genjutsu training and add a frightening new tool to his arsenal. If he lost, he’d get tormented by Tayuya and forced to annoy someone else. Still, just being able to battle a Sound Four member would be able increase his own experience through learning.
Of course, winning was the preferred result of this fight. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- >>>Beating You Up At the Speed of Sound<<<

As she swung her kick, Tayuya quickly went through a few dangers that Dosu presented in her head. First of all, those long sleeves might cause her to miscalculate on where the fist actually was. She would have to be extra careful, and perhaps even over calculating would be a good idea. However, if she over calculated too much, then it would definitely present a problem, because she wouldn't exactly be able to fight very well if she was constantly fleeing from his attacks. Tayuya was careful, but not spineless. If she was going to fight hand to hand, then she would fight hand to hand- playing any of those hit and run tactics wasn't her thing. Unless of course she had a nice flute to back her up from a long distance. Usually all she had to do was trap the opponent in an illusion and then she would be able to successfully fight them hand to hand. Of course, they would obviously be crippled. Tayuya never really had to rely on cold taijutsu, so it was not surprising that she might stumble a bit here and there, but she wouldn't run from this situation. No, she was too proud to hit and run at the moment- instead she would calculate perfectly where punches were thrown, though the sleeves made it hard, and then she would strike back when she had just the right amount of time.
The next problem that Dosu presented to Tayuya was that, well, she couldn't read his face very well. Why? Because it was covered. Traditionally, most ninja wore masks, cloths, or the latter over their faces in order to ensure that no one could read their expressions. However, Tayuya didn't because she felt that she didn't convey too much. In fact, with her perpetual smirk, people probably couldn't really tell what she was thinking. With Tayuya, a smirk could mean anything from amusement to anger. But with others, it was normally very simple to read their faces and predict what they would do next- but now, Tayuya would just have to read his physical actions that didn't involve Dosu's face, which was incredibly annoying. After all, she found it enjoyable to read her opponent's faces in order to figure out whether to let up on taunting, or continue with it. If her target's face would appear angry, she would keep up with the taunting and provoke them into being more reckless- however, if they were stoic and showed no emotion at all, she would give up so as not to waste her own breath. The point was that Tayuya relied on the emotions that others conveyed in order to gauge how she should act in a fight, and Dosu's gauze made that process extremely difficult.
The third and final problem that Tayuya could think of at the moment was the amplifier that was built into the male's arm. Sure, at this point it really had no ninjutsu use at all because they were only doing taijutsu- but that was the thing. He could still use it as a very effective weapon even in taijutsu. It was basically a giant hunk of metal on his forearm, his right forearm at that. That was most likely his good arm, which meant he would probably focus all his attacks with that arm. And if that happened, well, Tayuya wouldn't be able to block it with just her arm, or a leg. Perhaps a kunai. That seemed like the best bet at the moment but then again, what were the consequences of touching it? From what she knew, it was activated by touch. If she were to block it and accidentally press the button that it was on, well, she would basically be activating it for him. And if that happened... well, it would be considered legal, since she had told him not to use sound, and she would be the one making it happen. Perhaps she would just have to avoid the amplifier at all costs. That sounded like a good plan.
Tayuya lifted her head just in time to see the other jump backwards. Her foot caught the ground, and she let out a slight growl of irritation. However, when she saw him swinging the amplifier at her, she smirked. It seemed things were just as she had predicted. With a quick shifting of weight, she leaned into her outstretched leg and focused a bit of chakra into it before forcing herself back which caused a bit of pain in her lower back. However, she managed to effectively move out of the way of the hunk of metal and it was only a matter of seconds before she was on her feet, though she made no move to attack.
"It was idiotic to join this battle. You have to be naturally good, because effort by itself does nothing. Now hold still while I pummel you, you little shit!"
Tayuya had said the first part of her statement clearly to belittle the other, but the second part was just for a bit of intimidation. Anyone who knew Tayuya would know that when she was angry, she wasn't reckless- but instead very dangerous. And since she was typically foul-mouthed, adding the last part seemed all too necessary to her. It felt good to let out a bit of a battle cry every once in a while after all. As she yelled her last statement, she sprinted to Dosu's left, but only ended up twirling quickly to be on his right. She feigned a kick towards his right shin with her left leg, but only ended up planting her leg on the ground mid-kick in order to stabilize herself for the punch she threw at his left jawbone with her right fist. If he was quick-footed enough, he would be able to dodge it without too much trouble- however, if he fell for the mock-kick, then she would surely be able to land the hit on him.

>>>Dosu Kinuta<<< ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dodging the attack, Dosu saw that Tayuya was getting frustrated. Sadly, Tayuya was said to be continually frustrated so he doubted it would mess up her thinking at all. Still, it was good to know that he could annoy her a little in combat. What he didn't like, however, was the smirk that he spotted when he came in with his amplifier. Why was she smirking? Did she expect him to use his amplifier arm like that? She was the intelligent member of the Sound Four, and now that he thought of it, using it was a common sense thing due to the higher weight (and therefore more power).
Of course, he didn't have much time to be thinking at the second as she was quick to dodge his own attack. She forced herself back before standing up to take her time to insult him. Calling him an idiot, talking about how effort got nowhere, blah blah blah. Then there was the stuff about holding still while she pummeled him. Yeah, like that was going to do that.
"You're right, pure effort only goes so far, but don't worry, I have more than just that." He replied, just exchanging banter with her just for the heck of it. It really had no purpose to it; he doubted he would upset her. Besides, it wouldn't throw her off or anything. He just naturally responded to it.
Soon Dosu was coming straight at him again, aiming once again at his leg after shifting over to his left then right. His eyes followed her, and he shifted his own body to match her movements. He was a little slower then her, however, but could still catch her movements as she tried to throw a kick at his shin with her leg. There really was no time to dodge, so instead he started to duck downwards to block it with the amplifier. As he did so, however, he saw as her leg stop, and he reflexively brought his arm up to his face to protect. There was only one reason someone would do that; to try a sucker punch.
The next thing he knew he found a pain in his arm as her fist contacted with it. Using as much force as he could, he held her back as he could. Sliding a little bit backwards, he glanced up to find the two of them were pretty close. Sadly, she didn't hit the amplifier. Still, at this range he could try and tackle her to the ground.
However, she wasn't tired out at all, and there was plenty of time left for her to counterattack. If he tried to tackle her now, then she would probably throw him off or worse pin him. He could try and make a blow at her right now (her torso was open), but he had a feeling if he did so he would find that other fist going at him. This would not be a good time to end the match; it was just too risky to try and pin her in a state like this.
Instead, Dosu pushed her arm up and off him and then pushed himself backwards. Holding up his arms in a more defensive position, he looked right at Tayuya with a determined look in his eye. Even for just having one eye available he could give off quite a bit emotion if he wanted to. However, he did find that having his faced covered up was a good way to hide emotion while giving him a more fierce look...things he doubted would mean that much while dealing with Tayuya.
"So far I have yet to see the pummeling you promised. But I guess it would be too boring to end it early, right? You like to taunt the enemy some, if my memory serves." he asked teasingly.
He was having fun with this, at least more fun than dealing with his own teammates sometimes. The two of them were skilled, but Zaku was a hothead at times, and Kin didn't have anything interesting on her. Yes the bells had some genjutsu, and he had considered asking her about it, but Tayuya's was better. Besides, his amplifier had more in common with a flute than bells; therefore he had to be able to transfer Tayuya's jutsu easier than Kins. Finally, Tayuya was intelligent; his teammates weren't dumb, but he had a feeling Tayuya could, if she wanted to, talk to him on more complicated matters. At the moment, however, he just expected her to yell at him and call him names and cuss. Well, hopefully this battle would gain him a little bit of respect from the Sound Four member.
Now, however, he knew he would have to expect a little bit more from her. He was asking for her to go all out on him with his comment, so he had to be prepared for anything. Grinning a little, he closed his eyes. His sense of hearing was better than his sense of sight. If he was having to expect anything and everything, being able to pick up on the sound of her movements would be more helpful than trying to rely on sound. His mind started to drown at any background noise; owls, crickets, and all other nightly noises. Soon his focus was only on Tayuya; her breathing, her steps, anything that would account for her position. This was going to be fun. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- >>>Beating You Up At the Speed of Sound<<<

As she moved forward with her attack, Tayuya thought to herself how foolproof and excellent it was. She noticed that Dosu's eyes were trained on her leg that was making a sweep towards his shin. Perfect. That would allow her to follow through with the punch. She had just landed her foot when a wild grin appeared on her face, one that was swelled with pride. She balled her fist tight to enjoy the punch, and then- a look of shock made itself present on her visage. He had actually seen through her attack and moved his arm in the way. "Damn it!" she yelled, emitting a growl-like sound briefly after her shout of frustration.
It was only a few seconds before she felt Dosu push away, so she too backed away, balancing herself quickly. She noticed he had taken a defensive stance, his arms held in the air, ready to take on any new punch she threw at him. But Tayuya's stance was all different. Her arms hung lazily at her sides, and she was leaning to her left side with her right leg slightly bent. It was a completely relaxed look that she would only put on during situations that didn't really worry her too much. Well, that and to mock her opponents a little bit.
Only a few moments after taking their stances, Dosu started to talk some mockery of his own. Normally, Tayuya would get all fired up and angry- but right now, she found it nothing more than very amusing. So amusing, in fact, that her creepy, sardonic smile made itself present on her lips again. There was nothing that she enjoyed more than being able to beat the living daylights out of some overconfident little boy. The thing that she found more amusing, however, was that look she was giving him with his single revealed eye. A look she had seen before, in the eyes of Jirobo when he would try and beat her up after she called him a fatty. It was a look of stubbornness. Or, as it was more formally known, determination. A light wave of relief came over her as she realized she could still read his emotions, even with his eyes covered. She found the look very, very amusing, and even proceeded to grin even wider as she stared on. However, she wasn't just staring.
As they both readied their stances, or in Tayuya's case, lack of stance, Tayuya's mind began to wonder to something she had avoided before. The advantages she had against Dosu. She had already mentally discussed the disadvantages of fighting him with herself, but now she realized that there were more positive things to it then she originally thought. First of all, his left eye was completely covered. This would leave plenty of space for her to launch an attack in his blind spot, granting him a bit of difficulty in dodging or blocking. Secondly, though the amplifier was dangerous, it was a giant hunk of metal. It was sure to be very heavy, and his punches with his right arm would be considerably slower than those with his left. On top of that, though he was fast, she was still faster and she had superior reflexes. This would set the stage for a perfect assault that would leave him stumbling to block, and that was when she would catch him. And overall, with his left side being his blind spot and the side that he lacked his amplifier, if she were to launch an attack from that side, she would be safe from activating his amplifier and she would most likely get a good hit in.
"I know it's cliche to say, but that was only a warm up. The real pummeling is coming now. Think you're ready, you little rat?" She asked mockingly.
As she completed her sentence, her nimble fingers plunged into her weapons pouch and she made a dash at Dosu. Her right hand gripped three senbon, and she threw them in rapid succession, each following the other swiftly. The first one she threw whizzed straight between Dosu's legs and stuck in the ground behind him. The second one was thrown far off course, or at least it would seem that way to an opponent. It stuck into a tree only three meters to Dosu's left. The third and final senbon was thrown far over Dosu's head, clearly missing its mark. However, these would most likely cause the distraction she needed, for she had another plan up her sleeve.
Right after the senbon were thrown, Tayuya quickly did the hand signs for a clone jutsu and dashed to Dosu's left as it appeared. The clone, with kunai in hand, jumped in straight for a tackle on Dosu while Tayuya lightly treaded into his blind spot on his left side. Tayuya and the clone attacked in simultaneous beauty, for the real Tayuya was throwing a deadly punch straight for the left, masked side of Dosu's face.
It was an excellent strategy with few faults, if Tayuya could say so herself. The jist of the plan was that the senbon were to be used as a distraction to cover the clone jutsu. In return, the clone jutsu was used as a method of distracting Dosu from the real intent. The real intent was for the real Tayuya to land a massive punch onto Dosu's face, and then go straight in to pin him. Tayuya smirked inwardly as she threw the punch. 'Mission Succeeded' she thought to herself.

>>>Dosu Kinuta<<< ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dosu felt a little proud that his blocking of the attack had caught Tayuya off surprise. She even growled like a dog. It was a very encouraging sound. If he could surprise her once, he could do it again. And all he had to do was surprise her good enough to get her pinned. Then, it was genjutsu learning time. Of course, he knew it wouldn't be that easy; Tayuya wasn't Sound Four for nothing. And right now, he was only reacting to and dodging her attacks; he really wasn't taking much initiavite. However, that might be a good thing. If he was aggressive against her would probably loose; he'd have to let her come to him and do all the heavy work. She'd get tired out faster than him, hopefully.
As they separated, Dosu saw that her stance was much lazier and relaxed than his, a good sign that she felt rather confident about this fight. People with skills could afford to be lazy after all. Still, Dosu knew this relaxed stance was a lie. If he tried to attack her know, she'd whip right into shape and kick his butt. It was a trap, a mocking little trap. It just screamed "I'm holding back and don't need to go full strength to beat you...," which was probably right. Between her flute and the Curse Seal she had a lot more power that she could be using, and Dosu was expecting her to use it. After all, she didn't put any restrictions on herself for this fight. Ah well, he'd live with it.
At least she was taking all of this in good stride. She seemed to enjoy his teasing a bit. Heck, she was smiling about it as if this was all just a friendly sparring match. Well, it was to a degree; it just had a wager on it that Dosu didn't want to loose. Of course, she also seemed relieved about something, but Dosu blew it off. It wasn't that important, whatever it was. Still, his mind ran through anything it could. She probably spotted a weak spot on him, but other than just skill, the only thing he could think of was the fact half his face was in gauze, and therefore his vision was limited. Dosu smiled a little since he didn't need that to "see", so to speak. His mastery of sound and hearing was good enough that all but the most silent of enemies could be caught with it.
"I've been ready." was all Dosu had to reply to Tayuya's mocking. That would probably rile her up a little.
With his eyes closed, Dosu could hear the ruffling as Tayuya dug into her pouch as well as the sounds of her dashing at him. The lack of loud, metallic clanging meant she hadn't grabbed kunai or shuriken. Most likely she had grabbed senbon needles. Those were kind of hard to catch, Dosu had to admit. They were small in size and lacked anything that would catch the wind and make even the slightest of whistling noises. However, they were also less deadly than kunai unless the user was a master at anatomy. So if he was hit, it would hurt but not much.
Still, he was able to notice that the first senbon had hit the dirt in front of him, and then the second hit a tree a few meters off. These senbon had to be a distraction; Tayuya didn't suck that bad. Therefore, he simply ignored them, standing firm in place as he tried to pick up on Tayuya and not her projectiles. He found the sound of two sets of footsteps; a clone. She had been spending her time trying to distract him with senbon and clones. Clever...if he relied on sight. Sadly, his sound captured all.
One was heading over to his left side, the other to the right. The one coming in from the left was quieter, showing an attempt to sneak. Considering that was his 'blind side', so to speak, Dosu assumed that the Tayuya sneaking up on the left was the real Tayuya attempting to sneak up on him. The whizzing of a fist confirmed that, and with a grin Dosu finally opened his eyes and began a counterattack.
"Sorry Tayuya, but I don't fall for distractions that easily," Dosu replied as he brought up his amplifier to block, or at least knock away, Tayuya's fist.
This time, however, Dosu also got a little more aggressive. With his amplifier taking care of the defense, his other arm would be more offensive. Sure, it lacked the strength of the amplifier, but it was faster. Plus, it was his "good" arm since the other side of his body had burn marks on it and, while almost healed, still a little sore. Therefore, using his amplifier to hold off Tayuya's assault, Dosu swung himself around and aimed a punch at Tayuya's torso. Hopefully one good punch in the stomach would do the trick and give him time to pin her. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- >>>Beating You Up At the Speed of Sound<<<

Tayuya could have almost jumped for joy when she dashed for Dosu, throwing her fist at his face. This was finally going to be over, and over quickly she might add- sure, she was having fun, but the male was being a bit cocky. So cocky, in fact, that she actually wanted to punch him in the face. Really bad. Repeatedly. With spiked gloves. And perhaps a nice little strangling on the side, but the point was that she wanted to get it over with. And there were a couple reasons for that. The first reason being the aforementioned one, that the male was being way to cocky for Tayuya's tastes. The final one was that it would save her a lot of humiliation. How would it look if a Genin had stood up against a Sound Four member with seemingly little effort, or even worse, if that Genin beat the Sound Four member. Tayuya may have had her fun in the beginning, but from the point where he returned her mocking on, it was going to be cold-hard killing. And at this point, who was he to stop him? She had him right where she wanted him. Her fist flying ever so nicely at his face and-
He turned and saw her? What? 'Shit!' Tayuya thought, her eyes widening as she grit her teeth. She made a vicious attempt to try and rebalance herself so that she could retreat, but it was far too late. First she felt her fist smash against the hard, metal amplifier. Needless to say, it stung. In fact, it stung so much, that Tayuya let out a humongous cry of pain. She had definitely broken something. And the next thing accompanying that incredibly terrible pain in her hand was the sudden blow to her chest. The pain was no less than excruciating, but only because her hand felt so, well, destroyed. Needless to say, she staggered backwards and felt herself falling to her right side. In addition to that, she tried to break her fall with her right hand, the hand that had hit the amplifier. Well, that was probably the worst thing she could have done. Another shot of searing pain went through her hand. It was so painful, that she let out another loud yell, followed by "I GIVE"
She couldn't help it. And what was worse, that was her flute playing hand! Well, both hands were, but that was beside the point! She wouldn't be able to effectively perform a bunch of her jutsu without the ability to play her flute. Oh yeah, since she couldn't beat this guy in a fight right now, she was going to verbally abuse him. And it wouldn't just be a little bit of mockery and anger here and there, this would be a loud, and long chain of insults and swearing.
"Gah! I can't believe you, you damn rat! You and that stupid, god-awful amplifier have really done it this time... I.. I can't even feel my hand! What is going on!? How dare you do this to me! I'll take you out, and I'll ruthlessly slaughter you and all of your little Genin friends too!"
She shouted, before letting out another yelp of pain as she pulled her damaged hand into her lap.
"I won't even be able to teach you Genjutsu anymore! I can't even perform my own jutsu! You better hope this is only a bruise and nothing is broken, because if it's not, and we meet again- well you better hope we don't! God, I just want to rip your little throat out, you little shit!"
Tayuya was fuming, and all of a sudden- tears of humiliation started to flow from her eyes. Now that was something that people would never see in their lives. Tayuya crying? That was something that was completely unheard of. Sure, she might cry from laughing at an opponent, but Tayuya rarely cried when in pain. But it wasn't the pain that she was so frustrated about. It was the fact that a Genin had so easily taken her down so quickly- and damaged her greatly. And on top of all that, she was sincerely frightened that she would be considered a waste and thrown to the side because of her hand being temporarily disabled. Tayuya knew a lot of things about Orochimaru, and ruthless was definitely an adjective that could easily describe him. If she found that she no longer could serve him, then she would definitely toss him aside. Of course, she was over exaggerating the pain in her hand. Nothing had been broken, and with a little medical care, it would probably be easily healed within a few weeks. But nevertheless, the frustration got to her and it caused her to cry.
And what was more, how had everything just occurred? Her plan was foolproof, it was a great tactical strategy. She had formed key components, provided necessary distractions, and gone in for the kill but somehow he had known from the start. And then it hit her. She had ruled out his sight, but she hadn't at all considered the other senses that shinobi use on a regular basis. She hadn't ruled out sound, which was surely one of his greater strengths. The two sets of footsteps he must have processed would have easily given her away. As she slowly came to the realization of leaving out that key variable, she let out a deep sigh.
"But... you won, Dosu." Tayuya said, wiping her eyes with her good hand before standing up to look at him, a small, genuine smile on her face. "And if I can still play my flute, I'll honor our deal and teach you everything about genjutsu that you want to know."

>>>Dosu Kinuta<<< ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- His gambit paid off; Tayuya tried to back down but found her hand smashing against his amplifier. However, even Dosu was surprised how hard that was when he heard Tayuya cry out in pain. Still, he had to finish this fight, so he swung at her torso anyway. She staggered backwards, and used her hand to break the fall...which was rather bad as she was in pain. Dosu was about to take advantage of this to finally end the fight and pin her when she yelled out she gived. Taking a step back, Dosu put his amplifier up real quick, noticing a slight crack in it. Dang, she hit hard enough to crack it. It was a good thing I used it to block; that would have been bad to hit my face if it could do that.
Saving graces asided, Dosu turned his attention back to Tayuya. She was in the middle of a complete freakout it seems. With lots of swearing, insults, yelling, and overall a perfect representation of who she was. Dosu tried to keep stoic, but he was having an odd mixture of fear and laughter. However, if he laughed at all this, he'd be killed for sure. Tayuya hated to be mocked after all, and after winning the fight, mocking would just anger her even more. Still, the threat of slaughtering him and all his Genin teammates was a little much. Dosu gave a glare when she brought that up, and he had to respond.
"Tayuya, if you try to attack my teammates and I, do not expect us to go down easy, and I won't hold back at all." he replied a little threatingly. He knew this wasn't the time to do something like that, but he had to defend his teammates.
Then Tayuya mentioned she couldn't teach him Genjutsu anymore, or perform any of her jutsu. Following that was another threat to kill him. She was such a gracious loser, wasn't she. Wait, was she starting to cry? Dosu had respected, and maybe feared Tayuya a little, but to see her crying after just loosing was, well, disheartening. If this had been Zaku or Kin breaking down, he'd probably chew them out on it. But Tayuya, well, if he tried he'd just urk her more. Still, Dosu's eye, and what little could be made out of his face underneath the gauze, showed a bit of a disappointment in her.
Since he had nothing else to do, Dosu headed over and leaned up against a tree, letting his arms hang down. It was his turn to have the lazy-stance. He wasn't trying to show off; he was just tired. He deserved to be a little lazy after winning against Tayuya...oh, his teammates would love that story. How he had beaten one of the Sound Four in a spar. A taijutsu spar, but still, he had won...nah. He was going to be a more gracious in winning than in how accepting Tayuya was of losing. If anyone found out about this, his glory would go up, but Tayuya could get in trouble. It was embarassing, and could put her (admittedly impressive skills) in question. This was just him wanting to learn genjutsu; he wasn't planning on costing her the position of being in the Sound Four.
Still he had won, and she admitted it. And she kept her end of the bargain...smiling while doing it. He raised a slight eyebrow at that; it was such a change from the crying, swearing, and insulting she had just done. He hated dealing with mood swings.
"Well, to begin with, I'm going to add a bit more to my side of the deal. I'm assuming you don't want it let out that a Genin won a sparring with you, and so I won't mention it to anyone. Second, if it is any consolation," Dosu showed her the crack in the amplifier,"If I hadn't blocked your punch I'd probably out like a light right now. So I think it's safe to assume that in a full fight you'd probably win."
With that taken care of, Dosu covered up his amplifier again and started to think on what to take care of first. The main point would be to ask how exactly she was able to use sound to inflict genjutsu on the enemy. Using it for physical damage was easy; manipulating the thoughts was a harder leap. He also figured he'd probably have to learn how to play music; he'd find a way to adapt his sound amplifier to that purpose.
"Anyway, the main thing I'm interested is how the process of converting sound into a genjutsu. I can make it into physical damage without a problem, but I'm not too sure about the genjutsu part. Once I figure that out it I should be able to handle the rest of the process of genjutsu myself, for the most part." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- >>>Beating You Up At the Speed of Sound<<<

In the midst of her wild, raging rant, Tayuya could barely make out what Dosu was saying, but it sounded like he was defending his teammates. How typical. That's what people were always doing nowadays it seemed. Tayuya had never really understood the so-called "value" of teamwork. She was perfectly capable of working on her own and she was the one in her team who actually came up with all of the strategies and tactics. Sure, she was second to Sakon when it came down to a fight, but intelligence definitely counted for something. In fact, now that she thought about it, she really deserved to be the leader of the Sound Four. After all, she was the commanding genius behind Sakon's brute force. But admittedly, she definitely came second to Kimimaro in both categories- but that didn't count. He was the leader of the Sound Five, not the Sound Four. But that was all beside the point, the point was that Tayuya never worked well with teams. In fact, she downright hated her teammates. If working together wasn't a problem, dealing with each one of those psychos on a daily basis was. Sakon and Ukon were just utterly strange, Kidomaru was always making childish game references, and Jirobo... well, he was just unintelligent and Tayuya enjoyed berating him. When it came to teamwork, Dosu seemed to have something with his teammates that Tayuya would never understand.
After she had confessed that he had won fairly and she would teach him in Genjutsu, Tayuya noticed that Dosu's one visible eyebrow was raised. Well, that wasn't all too surprising. She had just been crying and now suddenly 'Tayuya the hothead' smiled out of nowhere and accepted the terms. Yeah, she'd heard it before, but this time she would really try and keep up her side of the bargain without any complaint. It was the least she owed the Genin for dragging him into this and then being a sore loser afterwards.
Tayuya looked up as the other began to speak, and actually listened intently. The first thing he said was that he... was not going to tell anyone that he had beaten her? If Tayuya believed in angels, she would thank them a million times over for having this guy as her opponent. Dosu was fair, something most sound-nin lacked, and he was also respectful. It wasn't Tayuya's cup of tea, but she couldn't help but be happy at what he said. Not telling anyone meant that word wouldn't spread, and potentially her reputation wouldn't go down. As well as the fact that her position in the Sound Four would be questioned. She was so happy she could almost thank him- almost. It was great that he was being so noble- but honestly, she was humiliated enough. Having to thank him would just force her to suffer another blow to her ego. So instead of any spoken thanks, she instead just gave him a light smile and fiddled with her right hand, trying to assess the damage.
But nevertheless, she continued to listen to what he said thoroughly. He seemed to state that she had cracked his amplifier. This caused her to raise an eyebrow and look up- and then she saw it. Straight down the side of the amplifier was a large crack. Her eyes travelled slowly from the amplifier to her damaged hand, and a confident smile broke out onto her face. So she wasn't such a failure after all. He was right, if that punch had actually connected, he would have perhaps even needed medical treatment. Though she tried to hold it back, thinking about him with even more wraps on his head caused her to laugh softly. And the fact that he had admitted that she would win in a full fight also brightened up her mood a little. Jeez, this kid was really good at knowing how to please Tayuya verbally. Basically, he was saying all the right things.
She was about to utter a 'thank you', one that was barely audible, but Dosu seemed to open his mouth to talk again. That wasn't too bad, she really, really didn't mind not having to say 'thank you'. As he spoke, she sort of got the gist of what he was saying. Basically, he could make sound do physical damage but he couldn't make Genjutsu out of it. Well, on the contrary, he might not have to make an instrument at all. If he tweaked it a little to send out non-harmful vibrations, and he trained with chakra control enough to send chakra through his amplifier, then he would be just fine as far as dispersing the chakra went. But then again, seeing him try and make that hunk of metal an instrument would probably be very fun to watch. Perhaps she wouldn't mention anything about not necessarily having to have an instrument like a flute to carry the chakra until after he made several attempts to make his amplifier sound pretty. It would certainly be interesting to watch.
"So you tap the amplifier and it forces out sound vibrations, huh? Well.. if you can turn that into something musical like my flute, it will be much easier to carry chakra on that's needed to be used for Genjutsu. And as for the illusions themselves, you say you've got that under control, right?"
