::Dosu Kinuta::
::CHARACTER OVERVIEW::
FACE CLAIM: Dosu
AGE: 14
GENDER: Male
DATE OF BIRTH: June 12
RANK: Genin
VILLAGE: Sound
::CHARACTER APPEAREANCE::
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
Dosu is rather small for someone of his age. He stands tall at a height of barely over 5ft. and weighing in at 108lbs. or so. For his small size, however, Dosu is a rather tough young man. His build is lean and tough, emphasizing a speed and concentrated power over full on force. While his small size may make him seem fragile, the suffering his body has taken throughout his life has toughened it to a level beyond that of the average person. His limbs are thin but well built, giving his punches some actual punch to them beyond that what one would expect from them. His right arm in particular has been given some extra training in weight lifting due to him having to lug around the Sound Amplifier on it.
While they are covered up, one of the most revealing aspects of Dosu’s physical state is his right side. Due to incidents in his early childhood, Dosu received massive burnings on his right torso and face. He received basic medical care immediately, but ran off before more advanced care could be given. While he did his best to care for it, the burns healed over with scars and dead tissue. Kabuto was able to reverse some of it, but Dosu still finds his right side to be filled with scarring, hardened and red flesh, and various other signs that show the area was once heavily scarred by burns. As a testament to his resiliency, however, Dosu doesn’t feel much pain from these wounds, and in fact suffers little to no ill effect from them.
Most of Dosu’s face is covered up with gauze, but some of it is still visible. The one eye that is exposed is usually placed in a piercing scowl of sorts, and can be rather creepy sometimes. Coloring wise it is a dark brown-black color, matching the skinny, black eyebrow above it. Underneath the gauze is a similar effect, but the eyebrow is burned off at the ends, and the eye is surrounded by scarred tissue. Dosu has no concern for hair either; his scalp has been damaged to the point little to none is grown. What is grown is usually shaved off, giving him a relatively clean scalp (if you count scarred as clean).
CLOTHING DESCRIPTION:
When it comes to clothing, Dosu follows a grey/black/darker grey color scheme. The first thing one may notice about him is his robe or shirt; it has really, really long sleeves. In fact, when standing upright, the sleeves reach down to his knees. They are also rather wide, and hang down loosely. The part where the robes meet have a black border to it. Tying this robe together is a black belt, and underneath is a black shirt. Hiding underneath the sleeve on his right side, however, is his secret weapon; the Sound Amplifier. The amplifier is a large object on his arm, with holes in it specially made to amplify sounds with a simply flick of it. It stays on the arm through the use of a glove mechanism, with the glove itself being blacked. The amplifier is detachable, but Dosu prefers to keep it on.
The other part of Dose one might notice is the snake-patterned pants and scarf. The pants and scarf are primarily white with blotches of black on them. The pants go down to calves, the scarf all around his neck. For shoes, he wears simple black open-toed shinobi sandals. One of the oddest things that Dosu wears is the giant furry thing on his back. It is worn like a cape, with straps to keep it on. Other than working well as a makeshift blanket, however, not even Dosu remembers what the purpose of it is. His headband is worn across his forehead.
Finally, Dosu wears a lot of gauze due to his burns. They cover his entire torso (for ease) as well as the right side of his face. The gauze covers his mouth and nose as well (though he can still easily talk). The only gauze on his person that is not for the purpose of hiding his scars his the gauze on his right leg. That gauze holds a packet with his shuriken and kunai knives.
::CHARACTER DETAIL::
FAMILY AND FRIENDS:
Orochimaru: Sensei
Zaku Abumi: Teammate
Kin Tsuchi: Teammate
PERSONALITY:
Due to the trauma experienced in his earlier life, Dosu has become a very serious and determined shinobi. He is highly intelligent, able to analyze and recognize even the smallest of sounds without hesitation. This skill has also made him a very alert ninja, and he always makes sure to keep an eye on his surroundings. Furthermore, Dosu is a very logical ninja, not placing a whole lot of emphasis on emotion and ‘gut instincts’ as compared to other shinobi such as Lee or Naruto. Instead, Dosu is careful to analyze every situation he is in and to come up with the best plan that he can make. While his skills may not be in the same rank as other nin (for example, Shikamaru), it is much higher than the average Genin.
For all his ‘intelligence’, however, Dosu does have a slight temper, and he also likes to be witty in battle. Once he discovers the weakness in his opponent, he will taunt them about it. More specifically, he likes to prove ‘logically’ how their view in life is wrong or will just lead to a bad end. That, or he’ll directly show them why they are wrong, usually with a clever phrase attached to it. He really doesn’t care about their viewpoints though; he’s just trying to psych them out.
Dosu is highly loyal to Orochimaru, in part due to all the help the Sound Village leader has given him over the years. Whenever he is assigned a task by Orochimaru, Dosu pursues it with all the skills and determination that he can muster. He will not stop until the task is completed. However, his loyalty isn’t completely blind. Dosu has suspected there may be more to Orochimaru than what meets the eye, and has kept an eye on him in hopes of learning more. Still, he currently has no plans on betraying Orochimaru, and continues to serve him to the best of his abilities.
Orochimaru isn’t the only one to have his loyalty, however. As the unofficial leader of his team, Dosu has their best interests at heart as long as they do not interfere with Orochimaru’s plans. Dosu does believe that one may have to sacrifice their lives or the lives of their teammates to accomplish the goal in mind, but he doesn’t throw away their lives. Even if he won’t admit it, Dosu does care for his team, and works the best he can to ensure that all of them survive the mission with minimal damage. If pressed on it, however, he will simply explain losing a teammate is a very high cost since it would mean training a new one, bonding with them, training, etc. This caring, however, will occasionally sneak through, such as Dosu willing to stand up for and ‘avenge’ his teammates if the need arises.
HISTORY:
Long before becoming the master of sound that he is today, Dosu was born in an indiscreet village in a minor land bordering the Land of Lightning. At the time the Third Great Ninja War was in full swing, with Konoha and Iwa. Dosu’s village, however, was far from the troubles of the shinobi world. Instead, his life was filled with the joys of the simple life, free from any real cares in the world. Neither of his parents were shinobi; instead they were simple farmers. Dosu would spend his days playing with the chickens or whatever random animals there were. He picked up a rather neat trick; he was able to perfectly imitate just about any animal sound that he heard almost instantly.
For the next five years of his life, it was a simple, peaceful time…until war broke out between Konoha and Kumo. For the first few months the war left his family alone, but as time went on the war effort came to his front door in the most tragic way possible. Dosu was out in the fields, taking care of some of the animals when he saw smoke coming from the direction of the village. Thinking that maybe there was a festival or something, he ran off to join in the festivities. There was no party however; instead, he found his home set ablaze. Alarmed, and with no care for his own safety, Dosu ran into the home to try and find his parents. Ignoring the blazing fire, he found his way inside, only to find both of his parents were dead, their bodies stabbed and covered by flaming debris.
Before he could get to them, however, a falling beam fell and caught the clothes on his right side. His clothes were caught on fire, but he was unable to free himself from the flames in time to avoid severe burns on his right side torso and face. Finally freeing himself, and adrenaline and fear numbing the pain, he broke out of his home and stumbled into the streets. The last view he saw was his village, all up in flames and several men in shinobi outfits walking towards him. He then fell unconscious, tired and severely burned.
Dosu found himself awake, lying on a cot in a tent of some sort. He tried to sit up, but couldn’t. His entire right side was bandaged. A medical-nin was nearby, and Dosu asked what had happened. The men were from Iwa, and informed him that his village had been caught in the crossfire of a battle between Konoha and Iwa forces. His team had been dispatched to locate survivors, but he had been the only one they found in good enough condition to even consider saving. The rest were burned or decimated to the point of being dead or just about. The fact he had lived was a miracle; the burns on his right side were severe enough that they would be permanently scarred. Some surgery could be done to save some function of his arm and minimize the scarring, but it would still be obvious he was burned at one point. Medical jutsu had been used to speed up the basic healing process, and Dosu found himself barely able to move after a few days. Still, he couldn’t even look at himself when the gauze had to be changed.
Over the next few weeks Dosu’s condition improved, and he was soon able to freely move again. However, he didn’t want to stay with these people at all; they reminded him too much of his village. So once he found himself capable of doing so, Dosu ran off, taking with him as much as he could supply himself. Life in the wilderness was rough. His right arm was still rather useless for anything outside of the basic functions; it would be months, maybe years before he gained full function again. Therefore, he couldn’t fight his way through things; instead, Dosu had to hone his skills to be able to perceive even the slightest sounds to alert himself to danger. Eventually he was able to distinguish even the slightest differences in noise, and through it estimate the height, weight, and various other information related to what was coming. With this alertness, Dosu was able to build traps and various other ingenious plots to be able to fight without really fighting. For food and gauze, Dosu used his skills in various chores in villages to get money.
It was his begging that soon caught the eye of Orochimaru. Intrigued by the young man’s (if you call an 8 year old a young man) skills, and the look of ambition and anger in his eye, Orochimaru invited him to join his plans to build the Village Hidden in the Sound into a great shinobi village. Dosu was hesitant at first, but when Orochimaru promised to cure his burnt right side and arm, he agreed. After years of being helpless and ‘weak’, the chance to become strong, to become a force to be reckoned with, was too much to pass. That day Dosu became an official Genin for the Village Hidden in the Sound. For the next six years he would train in the arts of a shinobi.
Before all that, however, Orochimaru had to make a ‘few modifications’. Taking advantage of the great medical knowledge of Kabuto, Orochimaru was able to speed up Dosu’s healing to such a level that his right side was almost completely healed. Sadly, due to the years of poor medical care and scarring, there was no way to fully heal it, and so to this day Dosu wears gauze to cover up the scarring and burning that covers his right side. It doesn’t bother him though; he’s used to it. A new addition to him, however, was the Sound Amplifier that was attached to his arm. While Kabuto’s medical skills could restore the use of his arm to almost full level, it was still the weaker arm. To make it still highly useful, and to take advantage of his almost innate level of knowledge about sound, the Amplifier was attached. While it is detachable, the fact it covers up his scarring, and it is his greatest weapon, Dosu has left it on almost all the time.
Over the years, Dosu was taught the basics of shinobi jutsu and tactics. He also trained in the use of the Sound Amplifier and the nature of sound himself. His skills he picked up in the wilderness were of great help, but in the compounds of Sound he took even greater leaps. Dosu soon found himself capable of determining not jus the source of the sound but the frequency of the sound itself. He also learned to pick up frequencies beyond normal human hearing, as well as being able to limit the range he could sense. The latter was very important since his jutsu was based on sound; he could eliminate the damage to himself by making himself immune to his own jutsu.
Eventually Dosu was placed on a team with Zaku Abumi and Kin Tsuchi. The three of them had similar backgrounds in the forms of being misfits, orphans, and/or miscreants. Dosu was for all intents and purposes the leader of the group, and was the one to receive orders from Orochimaru. For all that the man has done for him, Dosu is extremely loyal to the man. However, he is also loyal to his team, and for all his talk about sacrifice, Dosu isn’t exactly willing to risk their lives and throw them away. They are his only friends in the world, and he is willing to protect them.
::JUTSU AND WEAPONS::
WEAPONS:
~Sound Amplifier :: The Sound Genin Dosu wears a sound amplifying device on his right arm. This weapon vibrates at such a range so as to disrupt the inner ear membrane of his target. This can result in extreme disorientation and dizziness.
KEKKAI GENKAI / CLAN JUTSU:
CHAKRA NATURE
JUTSU:
~Vibrating Sound Drill [Kyoumeisen] :: Kyoumeisen is a Ninjutsu technique which uses sound waves created by Dosu's sound wave amplifier to disrupt a persons inner ear. After the amplifier releases sound waves, Dosu can use his chakra to move the waves directly into the inner ear of his opponent. By disrupting the inner ear in this manner, the target loses their sense of balance and will likely vomit. If the opponent has their ears plugged, Dosu can direct the sound through their body. Because the body is 70% water, it conducts the sound just as well. This allows the sound waves to still reach the inner ear.
~ Shadowing Stealth Technique [Bikou Ninjutsu] :: Bikou Ninjutsu is the technique ninjas use to follow their targets covertly. The manner in which the ninja shadows their target can differ, from the basic hiding under a nearby object, to using a jutsu to turn oneself invisible.
~ Clone Skill [Bunshin no Jutsu] :: Bunshin no Jutsu is a Ninjutsu technique which every ninja learns at the Ninja Academy. The Bunshin technique creates a copy of the ninja without substance. The copy resembles the ninja in every way. This clone can function as a distraction or as means to confuse one's opponent. As soon the Bunshin gets attacked or comes into contact with an opponent, it will disperse.
~ Transformation Technique [Henge no Jutsu] :: Henge no Jutsu is a ninjutsu technique which every ninja learns at the Ninja Academy. Henge allows the ninja to transform themselves into any person or object. This allows the ninja to move with stealth or to trick their opponents.
~ Art of Substitution [Kawarimi no Jutsu] :: Kawarimi no Jutsu is a basic Ninjutsu technique. When in danger the ninja will quickly substitute themself with another nearby object. This can be a block of wood or even another person. This allows the ninja to quickly flee and hide while the original object takes the brunt of their opponents attack.
~ Release [Kai] :: Kai is a Ninjutsu technique which allows the ninja to avoid the effects of a Genjutsu illusion. After forming the needed handseals, the Genjutsu technique will not affect the ninja. The ninja can also use the technique on another individual who was unable to avoid the attack. After forming the needed hand seals, the ninja touches the one affected to end the affect of the spell.

Dosu’s sleeves rocked gently as the cold, night wind blew around him. He was currently sitting on the roof of the hotel that was provided for foreign entrants in the Chuunin Exams. Tomorrow was supposed to be the first days of the exams; Dosu wasn’t that scared. “His” team was fully prepared, although he had to avoid saying he was the team leader. Orochimaru was their official leader, even if he was currently using the face of a Grass-nin. Anyone who knew Orochimaru, however, should be able to know it was him; it was those eyes, always ready to strike, filled with ambition and malice. The eyes of a snake, for those who loved irony.[/blockquote]
Now wasn’t the time to focus on irony, however. They had a mission to complete; to kill Sasuke Uchiha. From the information he had gathered throughout the day, Sasuke was currently the favorite to win alongside a Neji Hyuuga. They really didn’t care about him though; they just wanted information on Sasuke. There was the obvious stuff of course; he was the last Uchiha, had Sharingan, blah blah blah. Then there was the more useful things; he knew some fire-based jutsu and was trained by the legendary Copy Ninja, Kakashi. That was going to make things rather interesting. Everyone knew of Kakashi’s skills; a student trained by him was going to be a challenge.
Looking down at his Sound Amplifier, however, Dosu didn’t show any fear. After all, he had been trained by one of the Legendary Sanin; that had to put him at a level equal to Sasuke’s. His mastery of the use of sound as a weapon was unequalled as far as he knew. If he concentrated right now, he would be capable of telling exactly how many people were currently in the street below as well as catch onto their conversations. In fact, that was how he had been spying; by simply ‘eavesdropping’ on people’s talks. A lot of people had their money on Sasuke; Dosu was happy he would be the one to ruin their dreams of financial success in this gamble. Sasuke would die as Orochimaru ordered.
Of course, that left the question of what else to do after Sasuke was dead. There was the invasion after all, and Orochimaru had said he had a special role for them to fulfill once Sasuke was dead. Speaking of that, Orochimaru had been rather silent on what that role was, and while secrecy was important, Dosu had a feeling that something wasn’t right. Orochimaru had been a lot more open in the past about the details of a mission; therefore, hiding back information now was outside of the normal. Furthermore, there was that grin of his when he said it; Orochimaru was hiding something back. As Dosu was no stranger to Orochimaru’s ‘experiments’, he knew how far Orochimaru was willing to go for his goals. Therefore, whatever it was that he wanted them to do, it was not going to be pretty.
”A shinobi is always ready to sacrifice themselves for the sake of the mission…” Dosu mumbled, reminding himself of the importance of that rule. Still, he hated being left out of the dark like this, but at the moment there was nothing he could do to gain more information. For now he had to simply focus on killing Sasuke and the best way to deal with it.
Dosu’s head picked up when he heard movement behind him. Small but forceful steps combined with larger but still forceful steps. Estimated weight of the people; 85lbs and 108lbs, respectively. The lower weight and small area of impact suggested female, and the small ‘humph’ that came from the creation of a smirk suggested it was Kin. Therefore, the male that was beside her had to be Zaku.
”So, this is where you ran off too? Come on, we’re going to get some dinner, you in?” Zaku spoke…Dosu didn’t answer.
”Don’t know why you’re bothering him Zaku. You know Dosu is; probably isn’t even going to sleep he’s so focused on killing Sasuke. Just means more for us though.”
Dosu didn’t even need to turn around to know she was giving him a smirk; he knew Kin very well after all. He replied with a smile of his own before standing up and turning his head to face them.
”I’m going to sleep rather well tonight. I don’t want to look tired for Sasuke’s funeral after all.”
