PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:

Gaara is picked out among a crowd easiest because of his brick-red hair, which appears in very few people of Sunagakure & the rest of the shinobi world, if not just him. His hair is rather spiky, and is kept short, so it has a tendency to stick up in many directions. As almost a direct opposite to his hair, his skin is incredibly pale, like his eyes, which are a light turquoise and appear to be pupil-less. Gaara's hair parts slightly to the left, revealing a notable trait of his appearance: the blood red kanji reading "love" on the left of his forehead. Another notable trait of his appearance is the black eye rings that are about 3/4 of an inch wide, and encompass his entire eye. Though he oftentimes stands straight up, he is a bit on the short side compared to other boys his age. He also tends to keep his arms crossed.

CLOTHING DESCRIPTION:

Gaara does not have much variation in his dress, though it is somewhat complicated. Gaara wears a black full body suit with t-shirt-like fishnet sleeves, 3/4-length legs, and an open neck. Over the top of this dress, he wears a white cloth over his right shoulder and the left side of his hips, and a wide leather band strap over the left shoulder and right side of his hips. With this leather strap, he carries his gourd containing his sand on his back. It is assumed to be very heavy because of the sand, in addition to the blood mixed into it. He also wraps his forehead protector over the leather strap that goes across his chest. Across the gourd, which has a few cracks in it, there are various black designs, and a red cloth that holds it in place. Also, a white peice of cloth from the over-cloth hangs between his legs. His black pants have a built-in kunai & shuriken holster on the left leg, and the ends of the legs are tucked into bandages, which come all the way down to his ankles. His black shinobi sandals are classically designed of Sunagakure no Sato's sandals. He also wears a white bandage around his left foot for no apparent reason.

PERSONALITY:

Few words can be used to describe Gaara...and few are needed as well. Some choice words that could describe him are "Homicidal Maniac" and "Insomniac". He is a fairly cruel and demeaning person...but he was not always like this. Gaara grew up like any jinchuuriki-- feared and hated by the village. Despite their cold shoulders towards him, he tried to be friendly and interact with the other children his age. After the suicide and revelations of Yashamaru, the only person Gaara thought loved him, something within Gaara broke. He became emotionally withdrawn, all but silent, and consumed with a bitter loathing for everyone but himself. In time, he grew used to killing anyone who was sent to kill him, and he found it was his means of existence, to kill to survive, growing up with no friends...just enemies. Gaara's insomnia, forced upon him by the fear that the demon inside him would eat away at him if he were to fall asleep, only furthered his instability and desire to kill. Gaara would even kill his own siblings if they dared to cross him, controlling them with fear because he never actually saw them as siblings. He was cold and bloodthirsty, because there was no one in his life to show him love and quench the bloodlust.

HISTORY:

Before Gaara’s birth, a policy change by the feudal lord of the Wind country forced the village to reduce the number of ninja. Gaara’s father the Kazekage decided that quality should exceed quantity. He chose to use an old weapon of war, a bijuu, which had been imbued into two former Sand ninja in the past.

At his demand, one of Hidden Sand’s elder kunoichi's, a profoundly skilled woman by the name Chiyo sealed this weapon known as Shukaku into the unborn son of the Kazekage’s wife, Karura. Transferring it from the tea kettle it was held in, Gaara was imbued with the Shukaku, making him what many call a "Jinchuuriki", or "power of human sacrifice”. The term originates from the immense abilities that the subject wields, but at the loss of another human’s life. In this case, it was Karura who lost her life as her son was born. Furious about how she was to lose her life for the sake of a weapon, she named her baby in an accursed way. The name "Gaara" itself could be broken down to "A demon that loves only itself", a reflection of his inhuman nature and his status in the village as a weapon and nothing more.

Gaara grew up isolated, as the Shukaku came with more than just the loss of Karura as a price. Having been bonded so closely to Gaara, his will was ever-present in Gaara’s mind. His murderous nature instilled a violent mean streak in Gaara, further isolating him and shutting him off from the world socially. In addition, the Shukaku’s abilities generated an almost sentient and instinctive shield of sand that automatically protected Gaara from physical harm, even when he was the instigator, something Gaara himself realized when he never got cut and bled. Emotionally and physically shut away from everyone and everything, Gaara had no real friends, even with his immediate family looking down at him scornfully. The only person Gaara had come to be able to trust eventually was his uncle, Yashamaru, who educated him on some of the most basic human emotions that he would otherwise never learn.

One fateful night, Gaara was attacked from behind by an avalanche of kunai. Even though he was blind to the danger, his shield of sand protected him and wounded the attacker. Upon investigation, he saw the masked assassin was Yashamaru, who said the one who ordered the strike was none other than his father the Kazekage, who had deemed Gaara a failure as a weapon due to his instability. Yashamaru also confided that while he could have refused to carry out the assassination, he chose to take it willingly for Gaara's part in his sister's death. In his last moments, he activated a mass of exploding tags beneath his flak jacket in an attempt to take Gaara with him. Due to the sand shield, Gaara survived. His mind snapped due to the emotional torrent his immature mind was being burdened with. He wailed in agony and directed his sand to his forehead, carving the kanji "ai" or "love" into it, forever marking his body to remind himself of his new approach to life, to love only himself and fight only for himself.

Not deterred, the Kazekage ordered further assassinations towards Gaara, but every one met in failure. Gaara had learned to finally be the weapon he was intended, but he still retained his mental instabilities. He could never sleep for fear of the Shukaku’s influence on his unconscious mind. Some labeled it as the Shukaku "eating away at his personality". In truth, Shukaku’s personality replaced his, possessing Gaara’s body. Gaara never knew the full truth of the demon inside him. Believing that the blood of his victims that mixed with his sand strengthened him, or how he was possessed by the corrupted spirit of a priest of sand. For all the bravado, Gaara never rebelled against his father, welcoming the challenge of each life-or-death situation he was placed in as a confirmation of his existence.

• Shield of Sand [Suna no Tate] :: Whenever Gaara is about to come to harm, a shield of sand will automatically surround and protect him. The sand will react regardless of Gaara's will, even protecting him from self-inflicted injuries. The shield is capable of withstanding considerably strong attacks and projectiles, and can be hardened to a point where it's stronger than steel. It can be defeated by avoiding it completely with extremely high-speed attacks, or merely overcoming the shield with incredible brute force.
  
  
• Armor of Sand [Suna no Yoroi] :: Gaara can cover himself in a compacted layer of sand, providing an additional defense should his Shield of Sand fail. Though quite effective, maintaining the armor requires a large amount of chakra and stamina. Furthermore, it is nowhere as resilient as the Shield of Sand, since it easily breaks away upon impact, meaning that the sole purpose of the armor is to absorb impact channeled unto Gaara's body during battle. Another weakness is the additional weight of the sand means a decrease of speed and mobility.
  
  
• Sand Binding Coffin [Sabaku Kyuu] :: Gaara encases his opponents in a large amount of the special chakra-infused sand kept inside his gourd, immobilizing them. It can be used to suffocate an opponent or in preparation for Sand Waterfall Funeral.
  
  
• Sand Clone Technique [Suna Bunshin no Jutsu] :: Gaara creates a copy of himself out of sand, although it lacks color and is immediately recognizable as sand. This means that it is almost useless as a decoy. Unlike most bunshinjutsu, the clone still retains its shape after it is struck, and can even ensnare whatever comes into contact with it.
  
  
• Sand Waterfall Funeral [Sabaku Soosoo] :: After wrapping an opponent with sand, Gaara will cause the sand to implode and crush whatever is within. When used to kill a person, the death is so quick that there isn't even time to feel pain. The pressure also produces a sizable fountain of blood. Gaara can control the pressure used in the attack, which allows him to either break bones or completely liquefy an opponent.
  
  
• Shuukaku Transformations :: Gaara transforms into either a half-Shuukaku, miniature Shuukaku, or a full-out Shuukaku.*
  
  
• Sphere of Sand [Suna no Tama] :: Gaara surrounds himself with his Shield of Sand to guard against attacks. He then uses the Third Eye to watch his opponents' movements and control sand as necessary to battle them. In addition to being extremely dense, this sand-sphere can form spikes from its surface to spear any would-be attacker.
  
  
• Third Eye [Daisan no Me] :: Creates a floating eyeball out of sand that is connected to Gaara's optic nerves. Gaara can control the size of the eye depending on its use. Its main purpose is spying, since it can form and disperse in any location on command.
  
  
• Sand Shuriken [Suna Shuriken] :: When in a Shuukaku transformation, Gaara can fire shuriken made of sand at an opponent.*
  
  
• Wind Release: Infinite Sand Cloud Great Breakthrough [Fuuton: Mugen Sajin Daitoppa] :: When Gaara enters his half Shukaku form, he is able to use wind-based techniques. This technique allows Gaara to spew large amounts of sand from his mouth, enough to devastate the enemy or a large area around him.*

RP SAMPLE:Temari made her response quick and simple...rather to-the-point. Gaara nodded and cast her a snide look. She acted like she was actually happy today. Why are people so joyful...? he asked himself. However, he disguised his disgust in a nod and rather willingly closed his eyes for a few seconds as he kept walking. He used this small time to think of what he would do if he was ambushed...but why bother? He was always protected, and could...not to mention would kill anyone that came his way. He would fight, but many chakra signals could be one too many, even though he was with someone else...and not just someone else, but his two siblings. He curled his lip. How were they even related? Focusing chakra to the gourd, he prepared for any action.

Raising his head he only needed to look straight ahead to see the surrounding area....and those in it. He could almost feel his heart pounding as the enemies revealed themselves. He, Kankorou & Temari's chakra signals were by far the strongest, but many others dotted the surrounding area as the ambushers came into better view. With barely a small turn of his head, he had taken in the complete picture, not even acknowledging the few behind him. "We shouldnt waste any time" Temari began quietly, but Gaara gave her a glare that silenced her to keep the distraction at minimum volume. He plucked the cork off his gourd and stood perfectly still as the sand poured out around his feet, and the sound of clashing metal clanked as Temari & Kankorou took care of all but a few in front of him.

He gave no indication of anyone elses presence but his and the three bandits before him. "Let me assure my existance..." Gaara growled. The sand around him swarmed to the three infront of him before they could even move. Their shocked faces said it all, and they soon had sand crawling up their legs. They fired weapons at the sand and him, only to be deflected by each. Sand came right up infront of him quick as a flash, and Gaara didnt even blink. The sand was like its own being, and it wasnt even harmed by the dangerous edges of the weapons that struck it. In fact, the weapons stuck in it and fell to the ground.

He let the pause linger as the three struggled against the sand, but he kept a straight face as they tried to escape. It was futile, and almost amusing, but he didnt give them the chance to even try any harder than they needed to. Raising a hand, his arm straight, he extended his fingers. The sand climbed up their body as though pulled upwards, and it wrapped around their limbs and faces, keeping their faces of horror shown as he spoke to them. The sand then stilled and hardened as he paused everything, and the air seemed to break as he spoke, his voice heartless and cold. "You're in the way." The sand covered their faces, he raised a hand in a half-tora position to his face, and twisted his extended one.
