It kind of came to mind a couple years back, and I wrote a fanfic involving it, but the current situation in the Naruto manga/anime is reminiscent of the Cold War. You have each village in a weapons race to acquire their own Jinchuuriki, whether it be for defense, a first strike against a rival nation, or to stabilize international relations.
