::NEJI HYUUGA::
::CHARACTER OVERVIEW::
FACE CLAIM: N/A
AGE: 13
GENDER: Male
DATE OF BIRTH: July 3
RANK: Genin
VILLAGE: Konohagakure
::CHARACTER APPEAREANCE::
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
Though not physically intimidating at 5’3”, and 105 pounds, Neji’s overall personality and general expression enough to ward someone off if they don’t want trouble. Being of a fairly light build, Neji is not the largest figure in the crowd, although he has rather prominent muscle composition for someone his age. The prominent muscles are due to his physical training. Although he does not specialize in a Taijutsu requiring brute force and brawn, the extra muscle he carries packs a bit more of a punch than the average, lighter-framed Juuken user. To add to this, Neji is not as flexible as most Hyuuga, but he is incredibly agile and has a rather decent amount of speed in him.
Neji’s somewhat unfriendly demeanor matches his personality quite well, often giving off the impression that he is willing to have a go at someone if they ask for it. To the contrary, he will not get into a fight or scuffle he views as pointless and knows he will win…which is most of the time. Neji’s face is not very angular, but is a bit more on the rounded side, but he has slightly prominent cheekbones. His eyes, perhaps, are the most noticable features on his face. They are completely white and pupilless, and are better known as the Byakugan of the Hyuuga clan. Occasionally, however, depending on how the light hits his Byakugan, they may look as though they are sporting a slight shade of lavender. Neji’s face lateral to his eyes are completely normal until he activates his Byakugan. When he does so, the veins on this sides of his head bulge outwards as extra blood and chakra are channeled to his eyes to allow him the use of the extraordinary sight his Byakugan grants.
Neji’s face is framed by two leather straps that fall from some strapping around bandages at about his hair line level. These bandages and straps are covered by his black shinobi headband, which is positioned carefully to cover the green, swastica-shaped Juinjutsu forced upon all “caged bird” members of the Hyuuga clan’s branch house. Neji is resentful to bear such a mark, and almost always keeps it hidden when he can. The headband also covers the hairline of his dark brown hair, which is rather long for his age…it is even longer than the hair of some kunoichi in his age group. His hair is pulled back and tied about two inches from the end and falls to just above his waist.
CLOTHING DESCRIPTION:
Since the age of six, Neji has abandoned the traditional style of clothing expected from a Hyuuga branch member: robes. For one, he dislikes how they tend to restrict his movement…which he finds essential for his Taijutsu, but he also dislikes being labeled as a member of the lowly branch house. Compared to the classic robes, what Neji wears is rather simplistic.
On his torso he wears a beige, short-sleeved shirt that falls to his pelvic bones, and has a tucked collar that puffs out slightly around his neck. His top is zip-up, with a brown zipper straight up the middle, and tucked under with the collar. Across this zipper are three evenly-spaced, two-inch-wide straps of beige cloth that serve no other purpose than decoration and keeping his shirt on. He has the same straps on his shoulders, but only one strap per shoulder that is solely decorative.
Around his bottom portion, Neji wears a pair of brown-purple colored shorts that have simple forward-facing pockets and fall to just above his knees. Around his right thigh is strapped a blue shuriken and kunai holster. So that it doesn’t cause any sort of abraisons around that area, Neji has it lightly bandaged around the strap. For shoes, Neji wears the classic blue shinobi sandals, which are open-toed and open-heeled. His black shinobi headband embroidered with the Konoha Leaf symbol in the metal plate is worn securely around his forehead, covering the bandages and straps which are above the Hyuuga Branch House Juinjutsu…a green, swastica-shaped brand with two curved lines on either side of it. He hides the mark because of how much he detests being a “caged bird”.
Finally, and probably one of the more obvious articles of clothing Neji dons are bandages covering his entire right arm and right leg. The bandages on his arm start around his entire chest and a bit of wrapping on his upper left shoulder, but then the bandages wrap all the way down his right arm, around his hand and between his fingers. As for his leg, the bandaging begins around his pelvis and quickly divides into wrapping around only his right leg. The wrapping continues all the way down around his ankle before stopping.
::CHARACTER DETAIL::
FAMILY AND FRIENDS:
PERSONALITY:
SERIOUS & FOCUSED- Neji, to say the least, is not the most relaxed or humorous person around. Nor is he one of the nicer Genin in Konoha you could come across. He will do his job willingly, with little wiggle room to inch away from getting it done. He doesnt joke around at all, and if he says something that he finds even remotely amusing, it is more than likely a slightly berating comment towards someone else. He sees laughter and friendship a somewhat unimportant part of his life, and therefore finds them second-rate on his "priorities" ladder. Just because he doesnt very often, doesnt mean he is unable to "lighten up". Neji rarely smiles anymore, but if the time allows, he will engage in a normal conversation about anything and maybe crack a rare smile.
PATIENT & TACTICAL- Neji has a high tolerance for someone or something that is annoying him. Though he will mentally will it to stop, he will rarely say anything until whatever it is gets on his last nerve. He has realized by an early age that no matter how boring something is, holding your tongue and opinions to yourself will often offer the quickest key to success. However, he is not the same way towards others he views as incompetent. If he sees someone as such, he will cast them aside, knowing that their destiny has already been pre-determined, and they will remain as they are...incompetent and useless. If forced to work with someone like this, he will either tell them they are useless until they dont want to work with him anymore or will show little patience for them...they would be wise to humor him in these situations.
SECRETIVE & QUIET- A trait that seems to run in the Branch members of the Hyuuga clan, Neji is a rather secretive person. He is very careful about any emotion he expresses around people, and he keeps himself in check lest they find out what he is really thinking. He keeps his personal life in the dark from anyone even remotely close to him...the closest people being his Teammates and Sensei (and that says alot about his sociality). Also, despite his hate towards the Main House and its members, coupled with his utmost loathing of the Fate of the Caged Bird, Neji is very protective and secretive about his Byakugan. It is his most prized possession, and he fears its secret being found out. Sure, he will tell someone who asks in battle the basic capabilities of his eyes, but nothing more.
CONFIDENT & SURE- Outside of his initial feelings towards his clan, Neji is extremely mature for his age, and has great self-control. In battle, he is able to stay relatively calm in most situations and carefully look at the situation at hand. Neji has excellent instincts, both on the battlefield and as a leader. When forced to make difficult decisions on missions, he shows himself able to make a decision through keen observation and analysis. In battle, most of his decisions are based upon what little harm will come to the team he is a part of. He cares for their well being, even if he doesnt care much for them personally. Hailed as a genius, and having learned techniques normally not available to Hyuuga Branch members, Neji has been careful not to let his head get over-inflated. In battle, though, thanks to his analytical personality, and awareness of his own skills in battle, he has not lost a fight yet, mostly because he knows he can defeat an opponent, and will.
COLD & ANALYTICAL- Towards anyone else really, Neji is an incredibly condescending person. Because father had died because he was a member of the branch house, Neji has concluded that fate is something decided at birth and that no matter what one does, people cannot escape their destiny. Neji often applies this to people he views as weaker than himself, such as his cousin, Hinata. Despite the fact he has not spoken to her in years, he has seen her train before, and knows he far outclasses her. Neji often brushes people off at first sight, unless he takes interest in them, then he will speak up. Neji speaks his personal opinions about others without fear of any retaliation they may muster. Finally, he believes that speaking the truth is the best way to penetrate people to the mind and bone, to use what they know is wrong with them and turn it against them to make them feel bad about themselves.
HISTORY:
Neji was born with an unmarked forehead, but when his cousin Hinata, the main branch's heir, turned three years old, he was branded with the Hyuuga Main Family's Juinjutsu by his uncle Hiashi (as was customary to do. New Branch House members would be branded when the Hyuuga Clan successor turns three). All branch members carry this curse mark, as it is a symbol that one lives only to serve the main branch. Since that day, Neji has bore the curse sealing mark. This mark allows the Hyuuga main house to control the branch family, when activated the seal causes pain and kills the bearer of the mark by destroying their brain. At the same time, the Byakugan bloodline is also removed from their bodies, which helps keep the family’s bloodline secrets safe.[/blockquote]
Neji's father Hizashi was well aware of Neji's natural talent, and he was frustrated that despite Neji's skill, Neji still carried the fate of a servant. Hizashi openly showed his anger; consequently, he was punished through Hiashi's activation of his curse seal. Around this time, the Leaf and Cloud Villages had signed an alliance treaty. However, that treaty only served as a ticket into Konoha and a lowering of Konoha's guard so the Head Cloud ninja could abduct Hinata and steal the secrets of the Byakugan. The attempt failed, though, as Hiashi intervened and killed the man in his tracks.
When word of the murder reached the Hidden Cloud Village, they demanded Hiashi's body as compensation (as his body would hold the Byakugan as well). The Hidden Leaf Village was prepared to comply to this request until Hizashi stepped in and offered to give himself up instead. The elders of the Hyuuga clan did not want to give up the head of the house. It was decided that his twin brother, Hizashi, was to be killed instead. Due to him being bound by the Hyuuga Main Family's Juinjutsu when he dies, the Byakugan will be sealed away. Hizashi made this sacrifice willingly in order to protect his brother, family, and village. Due to this event, Neji became cynical and began to resent the Hyuuga clan’s system, and that the branch house would always be sacrificing their lives for the main house.
However, Neji still believes that the main branch had forced Hizashi to do so. This misconception became anger that followed him the rest of his life, and it is the primary basis of Neji’s grudge against the main branch and of his concrete view on one's unalterable fate…and that all members of the Branch House are destined to be Caged Birds who only lived to die for the Main House, building up Neji’s hate for the destiny he holds, and the Main House along with anyone affiliated with it. …A severe destiny complex, in other words.
After a few years in the Academy, Hyuuga Neji was hailed as the genius of the Hyuuga clan, and was the top graduate of his class and was placed in Team Guy, with Might Guy as the Jōnin leader, and Rock Lee and Tenten as his teammates. After officially being promoted to Genin, Neji declined to reveal his dream, and laughed at Rock Lee for claiming that he could become a great ninja with just taijutsu. Neji instantly berated Lee for his inability to mold chakra, and called him a “worthless dropout”. Soon, though, Lee announced a rivalry with Neji. Though he openly did nothing, Neji internally accepted, to humor Lee.
During their first year in Team Guy, Lee challenged Neji many times, but always lost. Guy would offer his Taijutsu secrets to his students, but only Lee took him up on his offer, considering Tenten preferred weapons and Neji, a more “direct” Taijutsu method. Guy decided to have his team wait a year before taking the Chuunin Exams, in order to ensure that they were prepared. In the past year, despite the fact Neji is from the Hyuuga branch family;he has obtained many of the skills only taught to the main family line, but keeps them a secret from any Hyuuga, only using them in missions and general spars. Also in this year, however, Neji’s animosity towards the main branch has become apparent to Guy.

KEKKAI GENKAI / CLAN JUTSU:
Byakugan [Byakugan] :: Byakugan is the blood inheritance limit of the Hyuuga Clan. The Hyuuga clan was one of the founding noble families of Leaf village. The clan itself is said to be the ancestors of the Uchiha clan who possess the bloodline of the Sharingan eye. When the "Byakugan" is activated, the clan member gains an extra-sensory perception, which gives them penetrating sight and telescopic vision. This allows them to see the tenketsu; the internal chakra coils system 361 pressure points. This vision also grants the member a near 360° view of their surroundings, the higher the skill of the clan member, the further the distance from which they can sense incoming attacks. Unfortunately the vision does have a weakness, a small blind spot that extends outwards from the vertebra of the upper back.
The clan uses this ability in conjunction with their own chakra creating the Juuken (gentle fist) fighting style. The clan member can use their fingers or palms to emit chakra to flow into their opponents body's at the tenketsu points. When the hand draws close enough to strike, the clan member can stop or increase their opponent’s chakra flow. The internal chakra coils which spread throughout the body also wrap around the internal chakra producing organs. So if the internal coils are attacked, it also damages these internal organs. Because a ninja can not train their internal body, such damage can be a critical hit for even a highly skilled ninja. The tenketsu serve as the connectors and exit points for the chakra pathways. So when they are stopped by the Hyuuga clan member, the ninja greatly loses his or her ability to utilize their chakra for jutsu.
Gentle Fist [Juuken] :: The Gentle Fist style of combat is based on palm strikes and generally aims to damage the body's Chakra Pathway System, thus creating difficulty by inhibiting an opponent's use of chakra. To do this, the user will forcefully insert a small amount of their own chakra into an opponent's chakra pathway system. The chakra can the be used to rupture or divert chakra flow, preventing them from using jutsu. It can also be used to attack the opponent's internal organs, to which the chakra pathway system is closely tied. Even the slightest tap from this style can cause major damage, hence the name "gentle fist." Because the chakra pathway system is invisible, the Byakugan is required for this style to be used effectively. Since the Byakugan is unique to the Hyuuga clan, it has become their signature style of combat.
Eight Trigrams Thirty-Two Palms [Hakke Sanjūni Shō] :: This technique is a maneuver of the Gentle Fist fighting style. It is essentially a halved version of the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms, but seems to be no less effective. This technique is used to close off the flow of chakra through thirty-two chakra points of an opponent's Chakra Pathway System. This eliminates their ability to use chakra for quite some time and makes it difficult for them to move.
Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms [Hakke Rokujūyon Shō] :: This technique is a maneuver of the Gentle Fist fighting style. It is reserved only for the Main branch of the Hyuuga clan (Neji, however, learned it rather easily). This technique is used to close off the flow of chakra through sixty-four chakra points of an opponent's Chakra Pathway System. This eliminates their ability to use chakra for quite some time and makes it difficult for them to move. Once someone is within range of the Hyuuga's field of divination, he or she assumes a Gentle Fist stance and begins to deliver the attack. Each set of strikes is done at an exponentially increasing pace and strength. The attack not only disables the enemy but also knocks them back with every set of strikes.
Eight Trigrams One Hundred Twenty-Eight Palms [Hakke Hyaku Nijūhachi Shō] :: A maneuver of the Gentle Fist fighting style, it is essentially a doubled version of the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms performed at twice the speed. This technique is used to close off the flow of chakra through one hundred and twenty-eight chakra points of an opponent's Chakra Pathway System. This eliminates their ability to use chakra for quite some time and makes it difficult for them to move. Alternatively, it can be used to hit a great number of targets very quickly.
CHAKRA NATURE
JUTSU:
Shadowing Stealth Technique [Bikou Ninjutsu] :: Bikou Ninjutsu is the technique ninjas use to follow their targets covertly. The manner in which the ninja shadows their target can differ, from the basic hiding under a nearby object, to using a jutsu to turn oneself invisible.[/size]
Clone Skill [Bunshin no Jutsu] :: Bunshin no Jutsu is a Ninjutsu technique which every ninja learns at the Ninja Academy. The Bunshin technique creates a copy of the ninja without substance. The copy resembles the ninja in every way. This clone can function as a distraction or as means to confuse one's opponent. As soon the Bunshin gets attacked or comes into contact with an opponent, it will disperse.
Transformation Technique [Henge no Jutsu] :: Henge no Jutsu is a ninjutsu technique which every ninja learns at the Ninja Academy. Henge allows the ninja to transform themselves into any person or object. This allows the ninja to move with stealth or to trick their opponents.
Art of Substitution [Kawarimi no Jutsu] :: Kawarimi no Jutsu is a basic Ninjutsu technique. When in danger the ninja will quickly substitute themselves with another nearby object. This can be a block of wood or even another person. This allows the ninja to quickly flee and hide while the original object takes the brunt of their opponents attack.
Release [Kai] :: Kai is a Ninjutsu technique which allows the ninja to avoid the effects of a Genjutsu illusion. After forming the needed handseals, the Genjutsu technique will not affect the ninja. The ninja can also use the technique on another individual who was unable to avoid the attack. After forming the needed hand seals, the ninja touches the one affected to end the affect of the spell.
Act of Water Surface Walking [Suimen Hokou no Waza] :: A variation on the Kinobori no Waza (Act of Tree Climbing), the art of water surface walking allows a ninja to walk on water as if it was a solid surface. Focusing an even amount of chakra out of the soles of their feet, they can balance themselves on the very surface of the water.

The afternoon was starting to grow late, and the sun appeared huge against the horizon it was slowly but surely beginning to meet. Neji's pale eyes were relaxed, for the time being. He, along with Tenten, Rock Lee, and Gai-sensei had just completed a rather cakewalk-esque D-ranked mission for the Hokage...a mission that was long overdue, infact. Due to its general lack of importance, it had been forced back for some of the more advanced Genin teams to tackle when they first had time. The mission was a “classified” matter, and the Hokage. However, when told this information, Neji had silently thought ‘Guffaw…since when is a “top-secret” mission merely D-ranked? It turned out that the “classified” name was given to pep them up a little. Sure, it worked temporarily…but not much longer. Neji hadnt really liked the mission that much, but he didn’t complain, and he got his job done. Now they were on their way home.[/blockquote]
Neji gave a small frown. Team Gai was nowhere near Konoha, and in the distance, he could just barely see the remains of the Abandoned City, even without his Byakugan activated. They had been leaping through the sparse trees, but for a few miles out from the City, it was totally desolate. Scanning the upcoming terrain, it was clear that they were going to start having to run soon enough. With a final leap, Neji felt as though he could have been carried by the wind for miles as he sailed through the air. His hair was tied back, but it still caught the wind and it streamed out behind him, but dropped when he hit the ground. Pushing himself up with his right hand, Neji glanced at Gai, waiting for the signal to progress. Once received, Neji simply nodded and took off at a run, his arms behind him. He kept pace with Lee quite easily, and Tenten was only a few meters behind him on the right. Both of them were rather quiet, and for Lee, abnormally so. Maybe he’s only tired… Neji thought.
They ran for about 20 minutes without much of an effort, and found themselves near the edge of the city. They stopped, and looked up at the buildings. The windows were all blown out, shingles and bricks lay astray everywhere...it was a bit of a disturbing site. He tensed slightly for no apparent reason as he came to a halt, but relaxed as he thought Easy...what kind of shinobi gets all worked up over a ghost town? he quizzed himself.
Glancing around, he couldnt see much of his peripheral vision but he could sort of sense chakra if necessary. He knew this city was the home of the Ninja Cats, but it was a good "hideout" for some rogue ninja, missing-nins, and bandits as well. Not a pleasant place, but it was nothing Neji figured Team Gai couldnt handle. With one blow from his Juuken, some cuts from Tenten, and (grudgingly he admitted) some tough blows from Lee, they would be done. Something had caught Gai’s attention, for he gave the single command ‘Stop’. Neji automatically went on the alert, straightening slightly as his teammates did. Looking to Gai, he received a knowing nod and said ”Byakugan!” for surveilance. Looking through two buildings, he saw nothing. He turned his head a few directions to make sure he had covered the entire area before he de-activated his Byakugan and looked to the others. ”Gai-sensei…” he said slowly ”There’s nothing here…” Honestly, he got a bit annoyed when his sensei tensed at even the slightest thing, but it was better safe than sorry…right?
