:: Sekitei Maiko::
::CHARACTER OVERVIEW::
FACE CLAIM: Megurine Luka from Vocaloids
AGE: 16
GENDER: Female
DATE OF BIRTH: January 30
RANK: Chuunin
VILLAGE: Suna
::CHARACTER APPEAREANCE::
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
Physically, Maiko is a very well developed woman. Since her fighting style relies on being quick, nimble, and flexible, Maiko keeps herself in very good physical condition. Maiko comes in at a height of about 5 ft. 6in. (something she likes to mess with Satoshi about, being an inch taller than him) and weighing it at about 120 lbs. Her general figure is rather slim and feminine, and Maiko does not have much in the way in muscle mass. Obviously she has some, being a ninja and all, but it is much leaner and trained in a way so as to make her more flexible than strong. This givers her great speed, but not much of a punch.
Starting with her hands, Maiko does take some effort to keep herself in good condition. Unless she has just gotten back from a mission or training, her nails are usually cleaned and taken care of. Since she doesn’t fight directly, her hands aren’t heavily scarred or damaged, allowing them to remain rather soft. Her arms are thin and feminine, but she has trained herself to make them flexible enough that she has almost complete freedom of movement in using them. Her legs have a little more mass to them, especially around the calves and hips, but still retain a rather lightweight form to them. They are also less flexible than her arms, but make up for it in giving her a great jumping ability for aerial assaults.
Her torso returns to the lean, lack-of-muscle look that her arms have. Maiko is relatively well endowed, something she doesn’t mind flaunting, if only to mess with some people (usually Satoshi). Her waist is rather slim, with a smooth stomach that, again, she doesn’t mind revealing. Her hips tend to jut out at that point, giving Maiko a well-kept hourglass figure.
Maiko’s face is almost always showing a smile matched with big, aqua-blue eyes. Her face is a little more pointed at the end than a normal girl, and her face overall has itself a nice heart shape to it. Her eyebrows are rather thin. Her hair, however, is not. It is a medium-light pink color, and other than keeping knots and such out of it, Maiko doesn’t work on it that much. By this point it flows down to below her waist, and her bangs come down to just about her eyes. The sides frame her face as well, giving her entire head a bit of a ‘drowning in pink’ feeling sometimes. Maiko currently will not answer the question; “Is it dyed or not?”
CLOTHING DESCRIPTION:
Clothing wise, Maiko goes for clothes that are a little revealing and a little loose, for the flair factor. In general, all of her clothes are black, with some designs in them as well. The first noticeable piece of clothing would have to be her shirt. From the back, it only covers up her lower back before curving upwards under her arms in the front. In the front, it covers up the neck and attaches with an elaborate pendant that is an aqua gem (a fake one; she’s not that stupid) and a cheap-gold knockoff clash. The rest of her shirt has a window for her chest, and it only reaches down to just above her stomach. Everything that needs covering up is covered, but its obvious Maiko isn’t shy about herself. The black shirt has a gold covered edge to it as well, for extra flair.
For lower-wear, Maiko wears a pair of black shorts that are covered up by a very long skirt, though that skirt doesn’t cover one leg. A belt of sorts keeps up the skirt, but should it get in the way she isn’t afraid to remove it. It’s not all she wears though. She has a black with gold embroidered stockings on her legs as well that end at just below the calf. For footwear, she has her own specially designed shinobi shoes, and by that she means it’s just a gold color instead of the normal black or blue closed-toe shoes.
Of course, Maiko has some accessories. The biggest one is her headband she wears; it is black with a gold-curved pattern on it. At the end are some more of the aqua fake-gems, for an added touch. On her arms are some black-colored bracers that she uses for protection purposes. Her basic equipment is secured on her kunai pouch, which is attached to her leg in the usual bandage-wrapped fashion on her right leg. As for her fans, they are kept in a special holster that is attached right above the kunai holster, and sometimes will hide bother with the skirt by shifting it around.
::CHARACTER DETAIL::
FAMILY AND FRIENDS:
Sekitei Kaito (father-deceased)
Sekitei Haku (mother-deceased)
Sekitei Rin (youngest sister-alive)
Watamaru Satoshi (teammate/crush-alive)
PERSONALITY:
For someone who has gone through some early childhood trauma, Maiko is surprisingly capable of keeping up a rather optimistic and cheery view. Maiko likes to claim to be a “big kid” sometimes, enjoying teasing her teammates (mostly Satoshi) and friends when she has the chance to. She is usually full of energy, always ready to get moving to the next big thing ahead. Sitting down is not an option for her; if she isn’t doing anything, she’ll make something happen. If forced to sit, it’s usually pretty noticeable that she wants to move cause she will shift around in her seat. Most often, when she needs to cause something to happen, she’ll talk; Maiko is a chatterbox. Sometimes it’s about missions, other time’s personal stuff, and quite often the local gossip. However, while sometimes she’ll push the limits on what people feel are comfortable, Maiko is able to respect boundaries….except for Satoshi, but she has reasons for that.
However, even if she’s “bubbly”, as some will describe, Maiko does have her spots for serious moments. She is highly protective of her younger sister as a result of her being about the only family she has left. When dealing with her, Maiko is quickly able to switch between being a sister and being a mom. This can be a moment of conflict, and sometimes even Maiko will admit to being obsessive about knowing what is going on with her sister; wanting to know where she is, with whom, what’s going on in her life, etc. Maiko will occasionally have the same attitude towards others, lecturing them on a mistake or trying to give advice when not needed. If this happens, the best thing to do is to let her know; Maiko does it by accident. Sadly, doesn’t work for her sister, and so when Maiko needs to talk to her, she will talk to her no matter what.
The other thing that Maiko will get serious about is a mission. While she doesn’t want to be a ‘downer’ during a mission, when she is needed to be a shinobi, she will be a shinobi. In combat she tries to take down the enemy as quickly as possible, though she does like to add a little ‘flair’ to it, combining dancing with her fans with her wind jutsu. To add to this flair, Maiko purposely designed her outfit to be flowing during a fight and, to quote herself, be a little ‘distracting.’ Should the clothes prove detrimental, however, Maiko doesn’t care about loosing them and will cut them off or whatever else is needed to be able to escape. Clothes are replaceable; your life isn’t after all. She has a similar approach to training and is always ready for a spar or co-op training. Rarely will she train alone; Maiko always drags someone (usually Satoshi) along with her to train.
Speaking of Satoshi (again), Maiko admittedly has a bit of a crush on the boy. She’s not really sure why she does; she just does. Maybe it’s because he is to easy to tease, or maybe it’s because she has a thing for the shy type. However, Maiko isn’t too sure how to proceed with these feelings and so does not directly admit them. Instead, she shows it in more ‘hands-on’ ways. Satoshi is Maiko’s favorite target for teasing, loving to sneak up behind the boy and give him a hug. She loves to get his face red and his words stammered and incoherent, and usually responds with a small laugh. However, she is also a little protective of him, though shows it the same way as she treats her sister; by acting like his ‘mother’ sometimes and lecturing him. Maiko is constantly trying to ‘encourage’ Satoshi to be more extroverted and claims the “hugs” are her therapy for him.
HISTORY:
It was during the chaos that was the Third Shinobi War that Sekitei Maiko was born to Kaito and Haku Sekitei. Both were shinobi for the Hidden Sand Village, but her mother Haku was given temporary leave to raise Maiko. Her father, however, was forced back onto the frontlines of war. For a year Haku lived with worry and fear that he would not make it back, but Maiko lived in blissful ignorance. All that she knew was that occasionally her father would come every once in awhile and it would always be a happy time, with “mama” always in a better mood afterwards. But with war still in full force, Maiko soon found herself alone again as her mother was forced to return to battle. Her grandparents took care of Maiko while her parents were at war.
A little more than a year later, however, she was reunited with her mother, pregnant with yet another child. The grandparents joked it was all a ploy to get out of combat duty to get pregnant so often, but Maiko just knew it meant a little sister was coming and she would have someone to play with. Sure, her grandparents discussed the war and told stories about her parents, but Maiko was still rather oblivious to what ‘war’ was. All she knew was that it was a bad thing that people got hurt in, that occasionally food was rationed because of it, and it kept her parents away from her. Still, with her mother back, Maiko soon forgot her troubles, and upon the birth of her sister Rin, was happy as could be. Even at three years old, Maiko did whatever she could to help raise the baby; which wasn’t that much, but it’s the thought that counts.
However, the war wasn’t turning in Suna’s favor, and so unlike before, when she had a year, Haku was forced to leave again after only 6 months leave. Like before, her grandparents took care of her, and Maiko’s parents would come and visit every now and then when granted leave. Soon the excitement began to dull as these visits became routine. As for Rin, Maiko still helped raise the baby, playing with her whenever she got the chance to, feeding her, not changing her (some things she wouldn’t do after all), etc. As she got old enough to begun walking with grandma around the village, however, Maiko started to neglect some of these duties. It was more fun exploring the city than hanging out with Rin, and there were lots of other kids to play with. Still, Maiko was close to her sister, even if she wasn’t helping out as much after awhile.
Then came a moment no kid wants; the death of their parents. Maiko was around five, and had gotten used to the routine visits. One time, however, they didn’t show up as planned; it happened sometimes, but as a week went by Maiko noticed her grandparents were worried. They told the kids not to fear, but they both knew something was wrong. It wasn’t until a Jounin of the village showed up and handed a note to the grandparents that they knew the truth; they had been killed in a battle, and had only just been identified. They had been hit hard by some jutsu, leaving their bodies barely recognizable. Their corpses were to be studied for the effects of the jutsu, hence the delay in the message. A few days later Maiko, her sister, and her grandparents were standing at the funeral, and it was there that Maiko got her first real view of shinobi.
After the funeral Maiko hung about, listening to the stories the shinobi told of her parents. They had apparently been great shinobi, accomplishing many missions successfully and saving many of their comrades’ lives. In fact, they had died in an attempt to deflect the jutsu away from their squad. Maiko sat listening to these stories, which her parents had tried to avoid telling so as to not bring the war to them. It was too late now though; the war had come in the worst way possible. Still, seeing all these people, and the stories that they told of her parents, Maiko, while sad, didn’t fall into complete despair. Instead, she looked at them as examples, and one day hoped she could be as great as they were. Glancing over at her sister, Maiko knew whom she was going to have to protect.
Over the next three years Maiko was almost inseparable from Rin, wanting to protect her sister like her parents had protected their comrades. Of course, sometimes she absolutely smothered her with attention, and so the two fought a lot. Still, when push came to shove, all it took for bullies to back off was for Maiko to show up and scare them off. Even with this reputation, however, Maiko generally got along well with other village kids, at least enough that when the time came for the Academy she knew she was going to have a good class. As for her grandparents, they were cautious about her decision, but allowed Maiko to go. They could see how important it was for her, and the war was coming to an end soon and would hopefully be over before she graduated. Maiko’s grandmother, as a gift, gave her a pair of tessen, telling Maiko to ‘use them wisely’.
Once inside the Academy, Maiko found herself to be a rather average student in Genjutsu, a little bit above average in Taijutsu, and great at Ninjutsu. Eventually Maiko decided to not even bother with Genjutsu, instead focusing her efforts in Taijutsu and Ninjutsu. With her fans, she was able to take special classes to learn how to properly use them, to great affect. Her natural flexibility and agility proved useful in these classes, and before long it was decided she was going to be a weapon specialist when it came to taijutsu. As for her Ninjutsu, she had an aptitude for it, doing very well with her Academy jutsu. Upon graduation, Maiko was placed on a team fit for her skills, though sadly it was a small team missing a member. Because of that, when Chuunin Exams rolled around, they were unable to participate. It didn’t matter to Maiko; she picked up some new skills during that time she couldn’t wait to test out.
Due to her ability with Ninjutsu, Maiko was tested for elemental chakra. Not surprisingly, she was found to have Wind as her element. The first jutsu she worked on was simply being able to change direction in mid-air, even at high speeds. With all the cliffs in Suna it wasn’t an issue at all to get said high speeds, though ironically enough for someone who was overprotective of her sister it was odd to find her jumping off small cliffs to test her jutsu. Obviously she was injured, though she was at least smart enough to have a rope to keep her from crashing to the ground. After about a month or so Maiko succeeded in the jutsu, and over time the ability to move mid-air proved a great asset in fighting.
The next jutsu she worked on was the Violent Wind Palm, which was a simple blast of air. No cliff-jumping was involved, and by the time the team had a new member on it, she had mastered the technique. Said team-mate was a Watamaru Satoshi, a person who had just graduated. Maiko, of course, was quick to welcome the new member, helping him with weapon training and all. It didn’t take too long before Maiko began to have a little bit of a crush on the boy, but she still hasn’t acted on it much except teasing him a bit. Besides, it wasn’t like he was just some cute, awkward boy; he had some real skill, as shown during a mission in the Land of Grass. At least he didn’t loose his arm, though Maiko did chide him for getting too reckless in the fight.
It wasn’t long before the Chuunin Exams came around, and since they were a full fledged team, they could now join. Maiko had hoped to hold off a little bit longer as she was working on combining her fan taijutsu with her wind ninjutsu, but went ahead with the team anyway. She did well enough to make it to the finals, but was beaten by a Konoha-nin. He had Fire jutsu, she had Wind; a bad, bad combination to put it simple. Still, Maiko wasn’t deterred, and when Satoshi made Chuunin she had to give him a great big hug in public, just to mess with him some.
Over the next year Maiko worked to perfect her wind-fan-taijutsu/ninjutsu mixture. It was really simple design; she used the fans to channel chakra to create small gusts of wind that cut the enemy up. She had seen a girl named Temari using such a jutsu with a giant fan, so why couldn’t she do the same with a pair of small ones? Besides, Satoshi was working on wind jutsu as well, which provided a great chance for the two of them to train together. She got her jutsu to work out a little bit quicker than he did, but then again she had the head start in learning such elemental jutsu. When the next Chuunin Exam came around a year later, Maiko didn’t have any trouble succeeding. It really helped she didn’t have to deal with any fire-users; instead she got paired with a lightning-user. The battle wasn’t hard at all; dodge some lightning blasts, block some with her fan, and then belt him with blasts of winds that cut him to pieces (not literally). What she plans to do now however….she’s not sure.

KEKKAI GENKAI / CLAN JUTSU:
None
CHAKRA NATURE
JUTSU:
~ Shadowing Stealth Technique [Bikou Ninjutsu] :: Bikou Ninjutsu is the technique ninjas use to follow their targets covertly. The manner in which the ninja shadows their target can differ, from the basic hiding under a nearby object, to using a jutsu to turn oneself invisible.
~ Clone Skill [Bunshin no Jutsu] :: Bunshin no Jutsu is a Ninjutsu technique which every ninja learns at the Ninja Academy. The Bunshin technique creates a copy of the ninja without substance. The copy resembles the ninja in every way. This clone can function as a distraction or as means to confuse one's opponent. As soon the Bunshin gets attacked or comes into contact with an opponent, it will disperse.
~ Transformation Technique [Henge no Jutsu] :: Henge no Jutsu is a ninjutsu technique which every ninja learns at the Ninja Academy. Henge allows the ninja to transform themselves into any person or object. This allows the ninja to move with stealth or to trick their opponents.
~ Art of Substitution [Kawarimi no Jutsu] :: Kawarimi no Jutsu is a basic Ninjutsu technique. When in danger the ninja will quickly substitute themself with another nearby object. This can be a block of wood or even another person. This allows the ninja to quickly flee and hide while the original object takes the brunt of their opponents attack.
~ Release [Kai] :: Kai is a Ninjutsu technique which allows the ninja to avoid the effects of a Genjutsu illusion. After forming the needed handseals, the Genjutsu technique will not affect the ninja. The ninja can also use the technique on another individual who was unable to avoid the attack. After forming the needed hand seals, the ninja touches the one affected to end the affect of the spell.
~Wind Release: Violent Wind Palm [Fūton: Reppūshō] :: A simple technique that when the users hands are clapped together, wind is compressed and transformed into a powerful gale. The jutsu used as an isolated attack has the power to easily knock over a human. Though the true value comes from using it together with projectile weapons like shuriken or kunai. Their speed, power, and ability to wound or even kill are all increased several times.
~Wind Release: Stream :: This jutsu allows the user to change direction while in mid-air at high speeds.
Name: Sickle Weasel Technique-Maiko’s Variation
Rank: C-Rank
Village: Sunagakure
Element: Fuuton
Characters: Sekitei Maiko
Description: A variation of the Sickle Weasel Technique used more famously by Temari, Maiko’s variation of the technique uses her two smaller fans instead of one larger fan. It is capable of the same basic technique. By freely manipulating the gale brought forth by her fans, the many air currents collide and create vacuums pockets. Countless invisible blades assault the person enveloped by this gale, carving up their body. Also, the strong wind power will blow away all incoming projectile weapons and will even make the opponent unable to stay on their feet. Due to the smaller size of Maiko’s fans, however, the area of the attack is much smaller and not as powerful. This is countered, however, by an increase of speed and flexibility in using the attack.

There was a nice breeze in the village today, causing Maiko’s skirt to flutter in the wind a little bit. She thought it was a nice touch; that’s why she used it after all. The morning was rather nice as well, and Maiko had been up for quite a bit of time to enjoy it. She had already eaten breakfast and was now just outside enjoying the view. Even after all these years she didn’t tire of this village. Sure, the sun could be annoying every now and then, and the dryness of the air could be an absolute nightmare for the skin, but it was her village; she wouldn’t have it any other way. Well, maybe some grass outside of the greenhouses and occasional oasis might be nice, but other than that nothing.[/blockquote]
Looking down at the ground, she used the shadow as a makeshift sundial, and tried to guess what Satoshi was doing right now. Most likely he had his nose stuck in a book somewhere; he was always reading. It was his personal little wall he used to hide from the world sometimes. Of course, if they were a wall, she was a catapult ready to tear it down. Maiko lost count how many times she would simply sneak up behind Satoshi and snatch the book from him, or his glasses, or something just to get his mind off of it. He was such an introvert, and Maiko didn’t like that much. Sure, she had moments of wanting to be alone, but Satoshi was just so awkward about it; someone needed to break him out of his shell. And so she Sekitei Maiko took it upon herself to do so, whether Satoshi wanted her to or not.
Laying back against the wall of her home, Maiko was about to rest when all of a sudden her grandfather called out.
”Maiko, don’t you have training with Watamura-san today?”
”Yeah, I know, I was just about to head out.” she lied, having completely forgot about it.
Pushing herself off against the wall, Maiko began to take a walk towards the village exit. Her team used some of the oases outside of the village as training spots. Mostly it was because it was away from the village and had water; a rare mixture out in the deserts. Satoshi was probably already there; he was always early for everything. Or was it that she was just late to everything? Either way, he was there, she was sure of that. Because he enjoyed his books oh so much, and she wanted him to get comfortable before being surprised, Maiko wasn’t in much of a rush to get to the oases. Instead she stopped at stall real quick and bought some sweets to munch on during the walk. She admittedly had a bit of a sweet tooth, though she had been good on keeping the intake low. Still, she would indulge every once in awhile, but always quick to hide the evidence before anyone she knew saw.
In this case, she was done before reaching the gates, and she disposed of the garbage by throwing it into an outside roast when the owner wasn’t looking. They must have been getting ready for a big dinner or something; they would like the extra flames right? Either way, she was out of the village before anyone knew she was there so it didn’t matter. With that done, she rushed off towards the oasis that had been appointed for that day of training. Satoshi had to be nice and comfortable now, right?
Well, he was at least talking to himself, though Maiko didn’t know what he was saying till she was close enough. All she heard was something about his books. Smiling, she saw that he was looking up at the clouds and laying down. So no glomping him today. Instead she was just going to have to quickly bend down right into his face before he had a chance to relax. Quietly she approached him, and she crouched down just in time for him to ask “how did I make Chuunin last year?” She had such perfect timing, didn’t she? Now that she was crouching, all she had to do was lean forward into his line of sight and answer for him.
”Cause your such a wonderful shinobi Satoshi-kun!” she said, grinning at him. Seeing as his glasses were closer than the book, she quickly snatched the glasses off of him before leaning away and sitting down.
”Though I do think you really need to read a bit less. Come on, I won’t bite if you try and talk to me.” she added, playfully smiling as she taunted him with his own glasses. Always a great start to the day.
