~~~Hinata Hyuuga~~~ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This had to be the craziest idea that she had thought up of in…actually, probably her life. However, Hinata knew this was something that she needed to talk about, and she was not going to get any support from her family in doing so. That just left her recently appointed sensei, Yuhi Kurenai. Now it was true that Hinata didn’t know that much about the woman, just that she was the sensei and apparently good at genjutsu. Still, she couldn’t get support from her family for sure, and she didn’t want to confide in Kiba or Shino on this. Not that she didn’t trust them or anything like that; they were her classmates and teammates now. No, it was just that this was a private matter related to her…lack of self-confidence. Besides, it was the job of the sensei to help the students, right?
It was a little hard getting a hold of the address. They hadn’t organized an official squad meeting so she hadn’t given them her address. Instead, she had to ask the Academy for it. Luckily, they were nice, especially once she told them it was a private matter. The administrators seemed to sympathize with her and gave it to her no problem. With it in hand, Hinata had begun to travel off to the housing district of the city; apparently Kurenai wasn’t part of a clan and was a stand alone ninja with her own apartment. Not like it wasn’t the first time she went to such a place; it was just that she was used to people being from a clan of shinobi like the Hyuuga or Inuzuka. The only non-clan people she knew of were Sakura and Naruto. On the bright side, it guaranteed the privacy.
As she approached the apartment door, Hinata was surprised to find it opening as a man, obviously a shinobi with his headband and uniform, exited the building. Was it a friend of Kurenai’s? Hinata just stood at the end of the balcony, watching as him and Kurenai chatted. Hinata was too far off to hear what was being said, but from the sound of it they were sounding rather happy. The guy glanced over and spotted Hinata, who just stood their smiling weakly, just a bit shy. For some odd reason he looked a little surprised, said something to Kurenai, and then headed off in a bit of a rush, with just a small spring in his step. Brushing it off as none of her business, Hinata made her way over to the door to talk to Kurenai. The woman had left the door open, so Hinata didn’t have much trouble getting an audience, so to speak.
”Uhm, Kurenai-sensei, w-would you mind if we chatted a little bit about a personal matter?” Hinata asked, nervous and playing with her fingers a little bit as she talked. She was trying to sound a little more confident so she didn’t sound weak in front of her sensei, but her natural personality was coming through anyway. Hopefully her sensei wouldn’t mind a brief conversation at all. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~~~The Heiress of the Hyuuga Clan ~~~
It was one of the rare days where neither Asuma nor Kurenai was busy with something Jounin related. They both had been assigned a new Genin team, but had yet to really meet their teams just yet. She knew that she was going to teach three members of three different clans here in the village. There was an Aburame, Inuzuka, and a Hyuuga that was going to be on her team. She was looking forward to meeting them each since she heard so many stories from the academy sensei, but she wanted to get to know them without the strain of anyone else around. She had been thinking about how she was going to present herself to them when of course Asuma stopped by. She couldn’t really resist him since they were secretly dating and she did like being around him.
After their little fun since Asuma had promise one of his students that he would play a board game with them. She was slightly disappointed, but knew that he would come back later tonight if the game didn’t take too long. She had walked him to the door and when he leaned down and kissed her cheek he had looked up and saw someone coming towards her house. Asuma must have seen this as well since he said his good bye and walked out of the house and left; Kurenai smiled and watched the young girl approach her. Right away she knew it was an Hyuuga since their eyes were all the same.
She smiled and allowed the girl to come in her home. She had to be her student since she had found her and sought her out. She didn’t mind as she watched the young timid girl in front of her. Her face softened when Hinata asked if she could talk to her about a personal matter. She felt glad that she knew at least one of her students could come and talk to her about something. She closed the door behind Hinata and straightened out her dress really quick and pushed back some of her hair that fell over her shoulder. She knew that her hair would not stay like this, but it was worth a try at the moment.
”Of course you can, Hinata. Would you like some tea?” She knew she was not offering much at the moment, but it was something since she was suppose to go shopping today and got side track. She moved towards the kitchen to get two glasses of tea for her and Hinata and to see what she could get for a snack as well.
~~~Hinata Hyuuga~~~ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- With Kurenai’s permission, Hinata entered the house. It would have been rude to enter without permission after all. She was glad though that their sensei had an open-door policy like that. It would make talking with her a lot easier if she could come and not bother her. Well, it might still bother her, so she wouldn’t do it too often. Still, it was a comfort to know she could talk with her if needed. And the way her face looked told Hinata that Kurenai was glad to know someone was willing to talk to her. Hinata had gotten good at reading faces, although this was the first time in a while the face wasn’t a cold glare of failure looking at her. A little less nervous, Hinata found a seat and sat down. While calmer, she was still a little nervous talking to someone about her issues. When she offered tea, Hinata took her up on it.
”Oh, yes, that would be fine. Thank you,” she replied quietly and politely. Kurenai walked off to get the tea ready, and Hinata just sat there quietly until it looked like she was ready and not busy with the tea.
Hinata, of course, had no idea how to get started on talking about this. After all, she hadn’t told anyone else about her crush on Naruto. Hmm, that would probably not be the best idea to start off with. Of course, she couldn’t also tell her about the issues she has with her family; that was private Hyuuga business. Oh, this might have been a bad idea to come to her and talk. Not that Kurenai would listen, but more because Hinata didn’t know what was appropriate to talk about and what wasn’t. Right now her mind was thinking that everything was inappropriate. Mentioning names would make her feel like she was gossiping too. Could you gossip about yourself though?
”Well, you see….,” she started, but left Kurenai hanging for a few seconds as she tried to think of a way to phrase it without mentioning any names and leaving her embarrassment at a minimum level,”I-I sort of have a confidence issue…”
Yeah, even Hinata knew that had to be the most obvious thing Kurenai could see right now, what with the stammering and the pauses and quietness. But starting off with the obvious would be a good way to move into something else, right? Taking a deep breath, Hinata decided to just get it over with and focus on the crush issue, since it was sort of the smaller issue at hand.
”A-and I’ve sort of got a crush on someone….” she mentioned quietly, playing with her fingers a little as her brain tried to figure out how to phrase an actual problem with this,”B-but I’m sort of afraid to mention it to him. He sort of has his eye on someone else, and I-I really don’t want to get between them like that….” ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~~~The Heiress of the Hyuuga Clan ~~~

Kurenai moved into the kitchen when Hinata said that she would take some tea. She went to the fridge and got out a pitcher and went to the cabinet and pulled out two medium glasses and poured some tea into them. She would have to admit to herself that she was rather thirsty after her visit from Asuma, but it was not something that she was going to tell her student either. In fact she and Asuma was still pretty much hiding their relationship because neither one of them wanted to deal with his father on the matter, however, every time she was in the present of him there was something about him that suggested that he already knew and it was hard to misplace that.
Kurenai placed the pitcher back in the fridge and looked to see what she could offer as a snack, which wasn’t much. Today was the day she usually went shopping for groceries, but had not gotten the chance to do that yet. She shook her head slightly and shrugged. Hinata would have to do without the snack for now, but she didn’t think that it was going to matter at the moment.
When she walked back into the livening room she found that Hinata had already taken a seat and she smiled at the young girl. She handed her the cup in her hand and listened to her talk about her confidence problem. She had read her academy file and Iruka had said something to her about it. Kurenai smiled and sat down and took a drink. ”Confidence is something that we all have to learn and there are some like you that don’t gain that right off the bat while others have since early childhood.”
Kunerai didn’t know enough about the inner workings of the Hyuuga to comment about anything of that matter. She also figured drawing up the clan was something that would not be taken lightly. She would have to make a point to go talk to her father and see if she could gain most of an insight to why Hinata was like this. For now, however, she was going to remain and sit with her student to see what else was bothering her since there seemed to be something else.
She took another drink of her tea and placed down the cup when Hinata commented about having a crush on someone, but that someone had a crush on someone else and she didn’t want to get in the way. She had heard rumors that at least half the girls in Hinata’s class had a crush in Uchiha Sasuke, but to her knowledge he didn’t show having a crush on anyone at all. So that ruled out the young Uchiha in her book. ”Ah to be young again and to have crushes….” Kurenai said a bit off handedly and with a smile on her face. ”A crush to any girl is not a laughing matter. We take it seriously to no end; however, you seem to have no confidence in this matter and willing to give into his wishes. Exactly who is it?” She was just curious, because she wanted Hinata to feel safe when talking to her and this way she could gather a bit more information about her student.

~~~Hinata Hyuuga~~~ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Taking the cup, Hinata gently took a sip or too to hold off on having to talk to Kurenai while she thought of something to say. There was a small hope on her part that her sensei would say something first, but Hinata had to be the one to bring it up first. After mentioning it, Kurenai smiled and told her that confidence was something they all had to learn, and she was just someone who didn’t gain that right off the back. Well, it was kind of hard to learn to be confident if you never had someone to ‘teach you.’ No, that wasn’t a good excuse. Naruto didn’t have anyone, except maybe Iruka from what she had seen, to teach him, and he was bursting with confidence. That was what made her gain a crush on him after all…
”I-I know….” she replied. She had been tempted to add what she had thought about Naruto, but figured it best to not. Still, one could tell she had been a little distracted in her thoughts before she spoke, and that she didn’t want to talk about something.
There was a little bit of time between that and her mentioning her crush issue. Both of them had to be thinking of something; her on how to proceed, and Kurenai probably on what to tell her. Eventually Hinata spilled the beans on her crush, and then waited patiently as her sensei started thinking before talking about it. First, she started talking about her own youth and how girls always took crushes seriously. Wasn’t that the truth. She remembered when Naruto accidentally kissed Sasuke; just about every other girl in class was ready to kill him for that. Then there was herself, unable to even talk to Naruto without blushing or messing with his fingers. If that wasn’t serious thought, then she didn’t know what was.
What did surprise her, however, was Kurenai asking her who it was. For about a second Hinata’s heart skipped a beat, and she sort of froze in her spot, unsure what to say. Slowly she drank her tea, trying to avoid talking, but there was only so long one could go doing that before the cup was empty and she had to talk. She doubted Kurenai would let her off the hook on this question anyway.
”Uh, well, uh…….” Hinata started, obviously nervous and face blushing. Should she tell her about this? This was a confidential meeting, and she doubted that Kurenai would tell anyone about it if she told her about Naruto. She was the sensei after all that was what she was there for right? And she seemed to understand about how a girl dealt with a crush. Taking a really, really deep breath, Hinata began to mumble out her answer.
”N-Naruto…” she mumbled, quiet enough that she doubted Kurenai heard her. Before her sensei could even ask her to speak up, Hinata knew she had to and so prepared again. This time, when she started talking, she was loud enough to here, though her face was tomato red and she had almost buried her face in her jacket in embarrassment.
”I-I have a crush on Naruto…” she finally blurted out. She waited a second to see if Kurenai said something, and then figured that, with how much people seemed to dislike him, that she might want to explain why it was she had a crush on Naruto.
”I-I don’t really know how to explain it. It’s just that, well, he seems so strong. No matter how much somebody puts him down, h-he just gets right back up full of confidence and strength. H-he’s not perfect of course, but that confidence I-I just can’t help but find him inspiring…” she blurted out kind of nervously fast but still with a level of strength she normally didn’t have. After all, she was defending Naruto; that was easier then defending herself. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~~~The Heiress of the Hyuuga Clan ~~~
Kurenai watched Hinata take the glass and say she knew. She closed her eyes and thought back to her own childhood. Most of her confidence came from being around Asuma and that was still the case today. She was glad that not only she been assigned a Genin squad for the first time, but he as well. It allowed her to question him to what he was doing and ask for pointers so they could help each other. Should she tell Hinata this however? Or would that made her seem weak in front of her student? She was not really sure how to deal with this just yet. Perhaps she would just have to sit on this for now?
”Even I had a problem with confidence when I was younger Hinata. I hid behind someone that I was close to.” Kurenai let caution go to the wind for now. She decided it might be best to be honest with her student more so than anything at the moment. Was anyone else this honest with her over this matter? ”I was good with the basic taijutsu and ninjutsu when I was younger, but never really good at anything else. I had a friend in the academy that I looked up too for many reasons one of the main one was he was my best friend when I moved here with my father. He had the confidence I never had, but as I got older I started to gain my own. So don’t worry Hinata one day you will gain that confidence and you wont even know where you got it from.” She smiled and closed her eyes slightly remembering when she was young and was always following Asuma around. Was it because he left the village and her that she gained her confidence? She wasn’t sure, but was she knew he would always be there for her now.
She watched her and noticed that she mumbled something that she could not hear and smile some. She leaned back in her seat and took another drink of her tea. This was slightly better than watching her follow Jounin Anko dance around Kakashi for the most part, but she was not going to say anything about that to someone like Hinata. Hinata probably would never meet Anko for some time, unless there was a Chuunin exam around the corner and there was no way her team was ready for that yet since they hadn’t even been on their first mission.
When Hinata finally said something it sounded like she said Naruto and before she could get anything out her student went into a full reason why she thought she liked him. Kurenai couldn’t help but to place on a warm smile and nodded. It sounded some reasonable and like her when she was younger. ”A crush is a powerful thing even for someone as young as yourself and someone as old as me. It drives emotions from us that we never thought we had or felt for that matter. Having a crush on someone and looking up to someone is about the same in their twisted views, but it is how we handle it that defines us Hinata. As for the perfect part…no one is perfect. Not even me or you. You have the stuttering problem and the confidence, but that will slowly start to go away in time. You can’t rush these things or you will regret it. Okay?” She sat back up and look at Hinata and her crimson eyes seemed like they were understanding where she was coming from.
~~~Hinata Hyuuga~~~ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hinata simply sat quiet, sipping her tea, as Kurenai described her own problems with confidence as a younger child. If Kurenai was afraid it would lower her reputation for Hinata, she had no worries. In fact, it was the complete opposite. Hearing about how Kurenai overcoming her own lack of confidence was inspiring for Hinata. If Kurenai could become a confident Jounin, then that meant there was hope for herself, right? They even had a similar situation with a source of inspiration; there was a person that had all the confidence they wanted and they hung onto them. Still, Hinata knew she was going to have to learn to get the confidence on her own; she couldn’t rely on Naruto for her entire life. Before she could ask about it though, she noticed that Kurenai had her eyes closed. She must have been remembering something from her childhood, so Hinata patiently waited for her to come back to the present before talking about it.
”It’s nice to know I’m not the only who’s had problems.” Hinata replied, though not mentioning that unlike her friend, Hinata really couldn’t hide behind her inspiration Naruto. Actually, she could rarely get within ten feet of him. Still, he had stood up for her before, though more often he seemed to think her a little weird. Even then, it was just enough to see his confidence for her; she didn’t need his friendship. Though admittedly having it was nice.
Soon Hinata found it time to spill the beans on her crush on Naruto. After spilling out her guts on it, Hinata waited for Kurenai to say something. Considering how it seemed that the entire village hated Naruto, she had expected Kurenai to say something negative about her crush on Naruto, maybe even try and convince her out of it. Instead, Kurenai seemed to completely ignore that part of it, instead talking about how a crush defines our emotions (oh boy did it for her; she fainted about every time she had a meeting with Naruto). The rest of it was the standard no one is perfect and she’ll gain more confidence over time, but when combined with the look Kurenai had of actually understanding, it meant a lot more to Hinata than random instructors. Hinata was pretty sure now that coming to visit Kurenai had been a good decision.
Still, there was something bothering her about Naruto; why was it that everyone hated him so much. She had never been given a good reason, just told that she should not get involved with the boy. But other than the pranks and disruptions in class, he didn’t seem to have done anything bad. In fact, Hinata isn’t sure what started first; the pranks or the being pushed away by the village. If something had happened, then Kurenai would know it, wouldn’t she? After all, it was widespread enough that there had to be some general reason behind it. Hinata knew talking about someone like this behind their back was a bad thing, but she really wanted to know what had Naruto done to bring about so much hate?
”K-kurenai-sensei? I-I was wondering if you’d be able to answer a question for me. I-I’ve noticed that it seems most of the adults don’t like Naruto, and admittedly his pranks probably don’t help, but I-it just seems to disproportionate how badly he is treated. Y-you wouldn’t happen to know what Naruto did to deserve it, would you?” ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~~~The Heiress of the Hyuuga Clan ~~~

Kurenai looked up to Hinata when she commented about how she was glad that she was not the only one that had problems with growing up. She nodded slightly at the girl and moved and placed her glass down on the table. She was not sure that her story about her younger days helped that much and she sure knew that it was not the best of the stories. There were times that she felt like she was not up to taking on a team, but Asuma had insured her that she was more the capable of doing so. Perhaps he was right in the long run of things and only time was going to tell if she was or not. The Third Hokage had faith in her, so that was a plus for her right? ”I hope you are right Asuma…you and your father for that matter….”
She smiled at the girl and shook her head slightly. ”Everyone going to have problems and they will have to find a way to deal with it Hinata. If we were all perfect it would make for a dull life. Temper flares before of certain situation and we cannot stop that we just have to learn how to deal with it and settle it. There are going to be times where you are going to have a bad day and times were you are going to have a good day, but it is going to be how you act that define it. Your own confidence is not going to come to you in a few days; it will be something that you will gain over time. You need confidence on missions.” She gave Hianta a playful smirk as if she was started to develop some sort of training for her team, but in a sense she was.
What came next from Hinata was something that she didn’t really know what to say. She looked down to the floor as she tried to gather her own thoughts about that night. She knew exactly why most of the village hated Naruto, but also knew that it was not the boy’s fault in what happened. She bite the inside of her lip and tapped her finger against her other arm as she learned forward and rested her arms on her knee. She was sworn not to tell what happened that night and if she told she would be going against the law that the Third had set. She closed her eyes because she knew that Hinata could probably tell that she knew.
She slowly looked up to the girl sitting in her living room. This time the smile had faded off her face and she looked rather serious now. ”Yes, I do know and no I am not allowed to tell you way. I have no ill thoughts about Naruto or his actions. He is acting out because he senses this just as you have observed from the village. You are smart Hinata, not many your age see this. Naruto sees it because well it is him that going through this. Now I expect for you to keep this between us and you being able to spot things more quickly than your teammates.” It was hard to tell if she was joking about the teammates or not at this point, but that was what she wanted to see from Hinata how she handle being placed under pressure already from her. It was not like she had said something that meant much to anything at the moment. For now she would leave it at that. She was not going to break her trust with the Third Hokage, especially since she had known him since she been in the village pretty much.

~~~Hinata Hyuuga~~~ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hinata quietly listened as Kurenai gave her a little speech about life. Admittedly, most of it Hinata had heard before, though it wasn’t like she had come to Kurenai expecting some new revelations about life. Hinata knew there were good days and bad days; just about any day that involved her running into Naruto was really a good day for her. She also knew that confidence wasn’t easy. If anything, it was probably the hardest thing for her, or at least self-confidence. It was rather easy to be confident in others, but when it came to herself, more often than not, she expected failure. Not that it stopped her from trying; it was just she was afraid when the important moment comes where she has to stand tall and strong, she’ll just fall apart completely.
Still, considering that the only time she usually got these speeches would be when the class got generalized speeches from teachers at the Academy. Since this speech was just for her, well, it made it a bit more special for Hinata. It was one of the few times she was getting outside approval and support that wasn’t also tinged with cynicism, disapproval, and over all negativity. The woman had even ended it with a bit of a playful smirk to drive the point home. Feeling a lot more comfortable with this meeting, Hinata’s voice was moving up to normal level when speaking, no longer afraid to do so.
”Thank you Kurenai-sensei. I just hope I’ll have the confidence when I need it most…” Hinata said, her voice dropping a little bit at the end. That last little comment was, admittedly, some of the ingrained negativity she had gained from her father’s disapproval and comments over time.
However, there wasn’t that much time to dwell on that. Instead, Hinata wanted focus on seeing what Kurenai had to say about Naruto’s life. Apparently, she had quite a bit, but sadly she mentioned she couldn’t reveal what it was that had happened. Was it something so terrible that it couldn’t be told? What could Naruto have ever done that was that bad? The worse he had ever done was paint the faces of the Hokage Mountain. Other than, he would have been way to young to have done anything wrong. It just didn’t make any sense. For whatever reason, however, Kurenai couldn’t say what it was, Hinata knew she couldn’t go any further into prying. Whatever it had been, it was serious at least; Kurenai’s face showed it. Still, Hinata believed in Naruto enough to doubt whatever it was that she was referring to was Naruto’s fault, whatever it may be.
Also, the comments telling her that both her and Naruto could sense it, and that not too many other people could, didn’t hurt anything. Just more compliments from the sensei after all. All, of course, with confidentiality between them, though admittedly Hinata never had plans of sharing any of this with her teammates anytime soon.
”Whatever it is, I don’t think it was Naruto’s fault at all, I’m certain of that even if no one else believes it. Though I am glad that you don’t seem to hate Naruto Kurenai-sensei, and of course I’ll keep this talk between us.” Hinata replied, much more confident now that she was defending Naruto from whatever this mysterious deed had done was. While she tended to lack confidence in herself, she had plenty of confidence for Naruto and her friends. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~~~The Heiress of the Hyuuga Clan ~~~
Kurenai was not sure how far the story went with Hinata at the moment. She didn’t think that it was that bad and she was giving the girl her own experience with life at the moment and there was nothing to be ashamed about in the long run for her. However, she knew that she would have to watch the girl closer and make sure she got some positive feedback because it seemed to her that she didn’t get many to start with.
She was slowly realizing that being a sensei was not only teaching the Genins about fighting and missions, but being there for them when they need it through life other situations. She smiled slightly to herself realizing that her own sensei was like that when she was younger. Whenever she was fighting with Asuma and not talking to him for some period of time he had always made them work it out between themselves. She knew she could always count on her sensei back then for anything even if it was talking about how her father wouldn’t let her do this and that. ”Being a sensei is going to harder than what I thought…it not just…my life I am keeping secret but theirs too in a since…”
Kurenai smiled at Hinata and nodded. ”Sooner or later you will find that confidence that you are seeking. Don’t worry about that…it will come in time. No need to rush it. I am here to pick up the slack and to teach you three.”
She was taken back by the question she had asked about Naruto. It was forbidden to tell a soul about it and it only hurt what people thought about the kid. She closed her eyes slightly to think about why the Third ordered it. Hinata was right; Naruto didn’t deserve the hate that he got from the village because it was not his fault for the attack. It just happened to be on the day he was born. She had no clue what Kushina and Minato was doing that night. No one day but because the demon was back in Naruto no one else got hurt from the Kyuubi.
She looked back up to Hinata and gave a weaker smile to the girl when she said that it didn’t seem like she hated Naruto. ”I don’t know him as well as you do. I was what 13 or 14 when he was born and well since then well he hasn’t done a thing to me. I have no reason to hate him Hinata. One day….I feel that this bad vibra that lurkers around the village about Naruto will disappear. Just make sure that he doesn’t get a huge head over it. We can’t have the knuckle one idiot of the village trying to pull more dangerous stunts on us all.”
She watched Hinata for now and reached and took another drink of her tea. If Hinata saw Naruto as her guiding light there was not much she could do. She would just have to work with the girl to get her to realize that there was more ways of finding confidence in herself other than looking at Naruto all the time.
~~~Hinata Hyuuga~~~ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- With comforting words from Kurenai, Hinata found herself more relaxed than she had in years. Between the pressure of her father and crush on Naruto, she had almost always been a little anxious and nervous. Here in the comfort of Kurenai’s house, however, she felt rather…peaceful. Add in the unconditional support that Kurenai was giving her, and she was almost rather saddened by the fact that she was going to have to leave eventually. Still, Hinata made a promise to herself to remember Kurenai’s words, and Naruto’s example, whenever she was feeling pathetic and degrading herself, or when her father was doing it for her. Besides, she was going to have her new teammates to support her as well; this would basically be the first time in years she really would have a group supporting her. Failing them before they even begun would not be the right thing to do; at all.
”Don’t worry Kurenai-sensei, I won’t let you down.” she responded, a little more confident now that she was getting some actual, positive feedback alongside her own promise to not let her newfound team and support down. With this newfound determination, defending Naruto was a pretty easy thing for her to do when that subject was brought up.
Of course, sadly, it really didn’t look like Kurenai was going to tell her anything, and she respected that. It made her rather more curious about what exactly Naruto had done to deserve any of this, but at least she knew there was at least one more person in this village who didn’t hate him. In the Academy, Iruka-sensei was about the only one who really treated Naruto nicely. The other teachers almost seemed like they were wanting him to fail to become a ninja. The rest of the students, at best, were annoyed with him, and at worse downright cruel. Hinata agreed with Kurenai on that one point; that one day the bad vibe surrounding Naruto would disappear.
The jokes about Naruto getting a big head about it of course and pulling dangerous stunts did a elicit a small laugh from Hinata. Even she had to admit the pranks could get on someone’s nerves at times, even if some were kind of funny. And she could also admit that Naruto could get a bit of an ego at times. She liked Naruto and held him up as a rolemodel, but she didn’t completely idolize him and think him perfect after all. Now, whether or not she could keep him from getting a big head was a different matter; after all, she wasn’t the most forceful person around, or able of berating someone else if they needed it. Still, she had to at least pay some lip-service to Kurenai’s request.
”No, that wouldn’t be a good thing at all. I’ll promise to try and keep him in check.” Hinata responded, giving a bit of a small smile in return.
As the conversation winded down, Hinata started to think of just exactly how she was supposed to be able to deal with Naruto without getting flustered or anything like that. Otherwise, she wasn’t going to be very effective in controlling him, let alone admitting her feelings for him. Considering Kurenai’s age and experience with being shy herself, it wasn’t that hard to think that maybe she had some advice she could use for this, right? Admittedly, it was embarrassing to be asking for what amounted to dating advice from her sensei. But right now she was probably a small peak of confidence; there was no time better to do it before this wore off. So with as slight blush on her face, she started.
”A-anyways, Kurenai-sensei, y-you wouldn’t happen to have any tips I could use to, well, uhm, get Naruto’s attention?” she responded, sounding a bit more nervous about saying the last part than the first part. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~~~The Heiress of the Hyuuga Clan ~~~

Kurenai smiled slightly when she heard that Hinata was not going to let her down. She laughed slightly and shook her head some. She knew being a shinobi was important to the ninja families of Konoha because of pride, but she still saw a child in her stupid that needed to get out. She closed her eyes slightly to think about something and reopened them and looked over to the girl that was sitting on her couch.
”Hinata, you are a child and from my own experience as a kid myself there were many times that I felt like I let my sensei and father down a lot during my days. There is nothing that you would do that would make me think less of you or the other two. Yes, you may disappoint me from time to time, but that is nothing to be mad about. You will still be my students afterwards. But you cannot make me feel like I have lost all faith in you. You are growing and you are suppose to make mistakes so you can learn from them and pass onto your children and students. Besides this is a learning experience for me as well. I just got the title of Jounin and took Team 8 on as my students…I am slightly excited and scared myself.”
She was thankful that Hinata had not asked why Asuma was here or even thought differently of her because of it. Their relationship was still kinda on the down low in the village and she wanted it to stay that way. She didn’t want other thinking she was promoted to Jounin because she was with the Hokage’s son at them. Though she knew they spent a lot of time with each other outside of missions, but they could have pass it off as being on the same Genin as kids.
She smiled when Hinata said that she would keep Naruto in check when the village realized how much like his father he could be. She didn’t know much about the Fourth Hokage, but he was a honorable man from what she could remember of him. She knew that one day Naruto would live up to being his father and mother’s son. She closed her eyes slightly and tried to force that night out of her head for now. She couldn’t tell the girl the information she sought, but one day she hope the information about Naruto and the Kyuubi was out and the people saw him as a Hero and not a foul creature of destruction.
She opened her eyes when Hinata started to stutter again and ask about ways of getting Naruto’s attention. She giggled slightly and lean back in her chair again. ”You do like placing me on the spot don’t you? There is a lot of ways to do that, but you have to play at his personality. Like I said before I really don’t know much about him personally because I have never been around him. I have had my own missions and that to take care of. Tell me a bit about him from your point of view instead of the village and I will see if I got anything for you.” She smiled and it seemed like she was enjoying her time at the moment. It had been awhile that she had time to talk boys with someone and it didn’t matter that it was with her own student either.

~~~Hinata Hyuuga~~~ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hinata was confused when Kurenai laughed at her comment about not wanting to let her down. Was there something wrong with that? She waited for an explanation, and she soon began to get one. Again, Kurenai admitted to once having the same thoughts that she was having right now. When Kurenai said there was nothing that her or her teammates could do that would make her think less of them, Hinata was a little surprised. Most of her life her worth to her father and family had been based on what she could do, and she had failed them in that regard. Such unconditional support was new to her, and she was glad for that even if apparently she could still disappoint her. Furthermore, Hinata didn’t think about Kurenai’s position of being a first time instructor. In that case, Kurenai was a lot like her. Well, since she had been so nice to her so far, Hinata had to offer her own words of support.
”If it helps any, I-I think so far you are doing a great job as a teacher just by listening to me….” she replied, a little nervous about saying something like that as a teacher and hoping Kurenai accepted the compliment.
Since there was no chance of getting anymore info about Naruto’s past from Kurenai, and she had no interest in asking why Asuma had been there ( she just assumed it had been a meeting about their respective Jounin teams), the conversation turned into more generalized, less dramatic topics. In this case, simple dating advice, if it could be called that, from Kurenai to Hinata. Not that she expected to actually get a date or anything from Naruto; just a simple friendship would work for her right now. Still, even that required her to get beyond what she admitted to herself was a creepy habit of just hiding and watching him.
However, she didn’t expect Kurenai to put her on the spot and force her to describe Naruto for her. Hinata’s face obviously became flushed and nervous as she tried to figure out where to start. She had already covered the part that explained why she looked up to him, right? And they both knew about him being a prankster so that was covered. Maybe just starting off with those simple things to calm down while she thought of other things about him would be a good idea? Looking up at Kurenai, she saw that the woman was smiling. She was enjoying this talk, wasn’t she? Well, at least the fact she was being so warm and inviting was enough to calm Hinata down. Besides, at this point Kurenai was the only one she had told any of this about….
”Well, I already, I already talked about how he doesn’t go back on his word and never gives up. This makes him rather determined a-and stubborn as well. In fact,” at this point Hinata looked a little more saddened as she had to admit one thing to Kurenai,”He’s been chasing after Sa…another girl in class for a while now and getting rejected…” Remembering about Naruto’s crush on Sakura (who she didn’t name for privacy sake) brought down Hinata’s mood. When she started talking again, there was a little less enthusiasm in her voice.
”We’ve already covered him being a prankster and troublemaker, but I do think it’s cause he wants attention mostly and not just to be mean. I-in fact, I know he’s not mean but rather brave. A few years ago he-he saved me from some bullies without any regard for his own safety.” What else was there? Oh…,”And while he might not be good at school, I think, I think he’s a lot smarter than people give him credit for. Some of his pranks have been kind of elaborate enough that they couldn’t have been done by a simple moron like people think he is…” ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~~~The Heiress of the Hyuuga Clan ~~~
Kurenai smiled slightly when Hinata told her that she was doing a good job as a sensei just by listening to her at the moment. The only person that she had ever had to listen to her in recent years was Asuma, but that could only go so far sometimes and had always found herself talking to herself or reading over her dairy in a sense. She knew that time was going to come when her student wouldn’t need her, but she hoped that the time would never come anytime soon. She couldn’t help, but feel that she was doing something right by Hinata the moment.
”Whenever, you need to talk Hinata, I am here for you okay? You can come anytime of the day.” She knew that Asuma if he was ever here was going to understand that. Plus he had his own students to think about now as well. ”I wonder if the Third realized how close we were to each other and decided to promote me so we both had students…” It had never dawned on her until now, but her face remained the same because she knew either way how it worked that her life was going to change for the better. She was excited to be called in to teach students and there was nothing in this world that was going to change her views at the moment.
When the subjected approached on how she would describe Naruto in her own words she sat there and listened to Hinata. She had never really heard anything good about him in the last few years from other people, so this made her realize that the people was only looking at the boy with eyes that hated him for something that he had no control over. No one really knew all that happened that night during the attack and she was unsure if anyone would. ”If I am not mistaken, he going to be taught by Hatake Kakashi who as the Sharingan and he will be with Uchiha Sasuke…one of the last of the Uchiha. Two left in this world…and separated by fate…Kakashi-sna as one hell of a team…”
She giggled slightly when Hinata finished describing the boy. She couldn’t help but to be surprised at all Hinata took in about Naruto where most others would just dismiss it as being stupid or something. Hinata was going to be a good student to teach because of her skills at looking past and not judging people right off at the bat. ”You really are something else Hinata. You already have skills at observation that might surpass mine own some day. Pull the pranks that he does require some if not a lot of thinking on his part. No one looks at what he does as a whole, but they look at the end results which is nine out of ten times having someone else clean up the mess he makes.”
She closed her eyes slightly and tried to think of something. Naruto had saved her from some bullies without thinking of anyone but her. There was some other girl that as his attention and that he liked. She could tell that she was not going to get the name out of Hinata just yet and that was fine with her. She was not sure what she would have done if she found some random girl hitting on Asuma when she was younger, but now she would just let it go because she knew where his heart belonged to her. ”Now that you have that out of your system. What does it feel like when you are around him and what do you do?”
~~~Hinata Hyuuga~~~ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kurenai took the compliment well, smiling slightly at it. She also informed Hinata that she could come to talk with her at any time. Having someone like that made all of this a lot easier for Hinata; she was used to just hiding her own feelings behind a wall of shyness on her part or a “stoic” façade for her family. After all, she was supposed to be the heir to the Hyuuga family; showing weakness and emotion would make the clan appear weak. Well, she already made the clan seem weak; that’s why her father had basically given up on her. With this lifeline, she was going to take advantage of it. Maybe not too much though. Even if Kurenai said “whenever”, Hinata knew she had her own life to live and didn’t want to bother her constantly.
”Thank you Kurenai-sensei” she responded rather…cheerfully. And without any stuttering or nervousness, well, compared to her normal speech at least.
As Hinata began to describe Naruto in her own words, the embarrassment was obvious on her face, which had begun to turn slightly red as she went on. While she was feeling much more comfortable talking to Kurenai, it was still a slightly personal topic. Still, Kurenai deserved to be told about Naruto from the eyes of someone who didn’t act as if he was a complete monster like the villagers did. While she didn’t know WHY they thought that, she knew they had to be wrong about it. Whatever had happened Naruto didn’t do, didn’t have control of it, or didn’t mean any harm. She just wished she knew what it was though so she could at least help him, though exactly how she could do so would be an interesting question….
Still, even with the embarrassment, there was a slight bit of passion in the speech, though after remembering Naruto’s crush on Sakura it faltered a little. Sakura was a good person; she was smart, pretty, and just as stubborn as Naruto could be (she’d be a hypocrite if she applauded Naruto’s stubbornness but looked down on Sakura’s…) so she could see why Naruto would be interested in her even if she wasn’t too interested in him but Sasuke. Hinata never really saw the appeal in Sasuke, but knew that he would be Naruto’s rival for Sakura. And while she would love to have Naruto’s attention on her, she would support him if he wanted Sakura instead….
Once she was done, Hinata sat in simple silence, working on trying to hide the signs of embarrassment she knew had to be on her face right now, at least till Kurenai began to compliment her on having very good observational skills. Hinata didn’t think that was the case at all; she just thought herself being a bit more impartial towards Naruto while most people seemed to look at his actions, as Kurenai said herself, at only the end results and probably with a biased eye.
”T-thank you Kurenai-sensei…” she responded, embarrassed a little at the compliment and not too sure what else to say; after all, she usually didn’t get that many.
Once Kurenai began to think again, Hinata soon found herself on the spotlight again when asked what she felt like whenever he was around and what she did. Boy, would that be easy to explain; just looking at her now would be enough. For a moment she was tempted to try and hide the fact she occasionally fainted around him, but figured she needed to be honest to get the best help she could from Kurenai.
”Well, I always get nervous; heart fluttering, stomach queasy, face red hot. I also tend to play with my fingers some and avoid eye contact. And sometimes….I kind of, sort of….faint.” ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~~~The Heiress of the Hyuuga Clan ~~~
